I am currently trying to migrate a guest from a Window Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V to a window server 2008 Hyper-V. I have installed hyper-v 2008 r2 integeration service on the machine. I assume to migrate the guest to the Window Server 2008 Hyper-V Server i will just need to uninstall the integration services and remount the VHD once i migrate it to the other server. In which afterwards I will install the hyper-v 2008 integrations services.

Has anyone tried to do this before?

If so are there any other pitfalls?

My guest server is a SBS2008 server

    Hi,

Why not upgrade the Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V host machine to Windows Server 2008 R2.

By the way, if you do want to move the virtual machine to Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, please remove Integration Services on the Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V host, then on the Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V host machine, install Integration Services again.

    Hi!

If you don't mind using server core, you could install the free Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 at no cost. Again that is of course if you don't mind using server core.

Actually after doing some testing I cannot even uninstall the integration services as I dont see it as a program in add or remove and when trying to insert the intergration disk and run setup /uninstall that did not unintsall the integration disk as well.

The reason I am doing this is really cause of DR purposes as my remote site is 2008 R2 and my core site is running 2008.

Has anyone every try at least mounting the VHD that was connected to an 2008 R2 server to one that was running 2008?

I am wondering if i just copy the VHD back to the 2008 server from the 2008 r2 server will it  just boot up and will just require me to insert the intergation disk from windows 2008?

That is correct. From Server 2008 and up, the integration service drivers are natively built-in the OS. It is not a package that can be uninstalled, but by inserting the Hyper-V integration services disc, they can be replaced.
