    Hello,

My question surrounds converting a Virtual Server 2005 R2 VM to Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, and if anything is lost or leftover in the conversion that would have any negative impact on the VM? Is the conversion process a supported procedure by Microsoft? Would there be a scenario in which it was recommended to just install the OS fresh within Hyper-V?

I have followed the recommended conversion procedures and successfully converted many VM's in the past from Virtual Server to Hyper-V and haven't run across any issues. However I just wanted to know what others thoughts were on this topic?

    Thanks in advance.

    Robert,
As long as you uninstall the 2005 virtual Machine Additions prior to migration you will be ahead of the game.   Prior to installing the integration components from Hyper-V you might need to redetect the HAL and uninstall any legacy network adapters that might still hanging around.   Once you install the Integration components and reboot a couple of times you will be golden.

    Hi,

If you follow the Virtual Machine Migration Guide, I think you can complete the migration successfully, however, this is no guarantee.
