Hello,
I am trying to setup WMS Web Based Interface but it is not working for us. Everytime I try to access remotely, it throws following error message.
Service Unavailable - The Windows Media Services service was unavailable. Check that it is installed on the specified computer.
We are running Windows Media Services 2008 on Windows 2008 Enterprise SP2
I am able to access and manage Windows Media Server on Console using MMC. It just doesn't work with Web Based Interface remotely.
I will appreciate any help!
Jay

Make sure you are requiring authentication when accessing the web admin site. If you log in anonymously it won't work.- Marked As Answer by David Bristol [msft]Microsoft Employee, Moderator Wednesday, July 11, 2012 1:13 AM

Could be a firewall issue between your IIS and WMS servers. You may want to run a network trace tool on the IIS server to see if it is failing to connect to the WMS server.- Marked As Answer by David Bristol [msft]Microsoft Employee, Moderator Wednesday, July 11, 2012 1:13 AM

I am having the same issue but my IIS and WMS are both running on the same server.
I do notice that if I put myself in the local admin group it works, but I can't grant the user who will be using the remote access, local admin rights. Is there another security group or specific permission I can grant remote users?

You have to be an administrator.- Marked As Answer by David Bristol [msft]Microsoft Employee, Moderator Wednesday, July 11, 2012 1:13 AM
