Hi All,
I recently started facing the problem when changing the owner of the folder. I am the adminstrator and owner of that particular folder but it showing " An error occured applying security information to: XXX folder. this Security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object." when i click continue. it is showing "unale to set new owner on folder.. You dont have restored privilege required to set this user/group as owner".
Have also tried creating new folder but no luck. Earlier i used to have the rights to change the owner. working on some script ran into errors so tried manually and receive the same error.
any help is greatly appreciated
Many thanks in advance :)

Hi,
Thanks for your posting.
Ownership can be taken by:
- An administrator. By default, the Administrators group is given the Take ownership of files or other objects user right.
- Any user or group who has the Take Ownership permission on the object.
- A user who has the Restore files and directories user right.
So please check whether you have Restore files and directories user right.
Run “rsop.msc” and check whether you have deployed a Group Policy to modify the permission.
And also check it at local group policy: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\
