Any workaround to access the DMZ shared folder?

I have a shared folder in DMZ server and i am using the file://ipaddress/sharedfoldername/. When i click on the link i am not able to open the folder in windows explorer. However i am able to access it in \\ipaddress/sharedfoldername\ in Start --> Run.
Is this a known limitation in windows explorer? or do we have any workaround for it?
Basically i need to access the folder by clicking the link.

I think there is not workaround for this.
I have handled it in application code by using virtual directory
