I am having the same problem with error code 0x8007000d but while tryin to install audio driver for Logitech webcam pro 9000.  I phoned microsoft tech support but they refused to help unless I give my credit card #.  They say that my xp is no longer supported.  I've been trying to resolve this problem for 2 weeks now and have talked to Loritech tech support on 3 different ocassions.  The only thing I can think of is that my sound  card might be bad but don't want to buy a new one and find out that its not the problem.
