This may not be the right forum to post, you might get this thread moved.

The documentation is the best starting point, be forwarned, there appears to be plenty of errors.

Basiclly, you want to create both a source os and task sequence folder, and a deploy os folder and task sequence folder structure. Import your os into the source os folder, and create as standard client task sequence to capture it. Right click your deployment share, update your boot point. Boot your machine on either a cd rom or pxe boot via wds.

Run your task, and make sure to capture an image when it asks at the end. After it captures, import it under the deploy side of your os folder. create another task under your deploy task sequence, but this time do not capture an image.

    That's mdt 2010 in a nutshell!

Jonathan has already given you the nutshell, I'll try to expand a little. This may not be the correct or optimal steps, but it works for me.

-Create your reference machine with your applications and all other goodies.
-In MDT, you need to import the XP SP3 CD into Operating Systems.
-In task sequences, create a "sysprep and capture" task sequence. Point to the OS you imported in the step above at the "select os" screen.
-Once the reference machine has been customized to your liking, connect to \\server\deploymentshare\scripts and run litetouch.vbs.
-This will bring up the task sequences, choose the sysprep and capture task sequence you created. The machine will do various things, along with sysprepping the machine and booting into windows PE where it will then capture the image as a .wim file.

Once you have the .wim file, create another task sequence (standard client sequence) which makes use of the captured .wim file in your "install operating system" task.

I'm not sure if you are using MDT in conjunction with WDS or not, if you are, you need to load the boot.wim that MDT creates as a boot image in WDS.
boot.wim is created when you "update deployment share".

Hopefully this gives you a head start.

I'm not aware of any guides for deploying XP with MDT 2010. Obviously MS wants everyone to upgrade.
I haven't written any guides and neither am I very good at it.

    Hi,

As this issue is mainly related to Windows XP deployment, I suggest discussing it in our Windows XP Setup and Deployment newsgroup. They are the best resource to deal with this issue.

I did a search  on the news group you listed above and there is not a single reference to "MDT 2010" in that news group.
