Hi! I have an issue I am totally stuck on...
I am booting into Windows PE and would like to apply an unattend.xml to a base build of Windows 7 with the install.wim file

Currently I do this but it does not apply any customization..
    IMAGEX /APPLY T:\INSTALL\7\x64\sources\install.wim 1 C:
    COPY T:\INSTALL\7\x64\Autounattend.xml c:\unattend.xml
    BCDBOOT c:\windows

It currently boots fine but comes up with a window saying Windows Starter Edition and lanugage settings...
my Unattend works fine with the setup.exe for Windows 7

Is there any way to apply unattend.xml with the base install.wim?

You need to capture a wim file yourself, as only setup is supposed to use the install.wim directly from the CD. You can use your answer file after you capture your image.

Jonathan: Thanks for the quick reply., so if I apply this image to a PC and then capture with ImageX that will work... I presumed as much but the install from the CD does work to a point but I just cannot get it to look at the unattend.xml. The reason being is that we are going to deploy this to xx,000's of pc's and we want to not touch the "gold" image from the CD is that not possible at all? even if its not "supported"

Imaging from the install.wim is definitly not supported or recommended. Install windows 7, make your changes, and sysprep /generalize /oobe it, then capture an image of that and deploy that to your pc's

    Hi,

As this issue is mainly related to Windows 7 deployment, I suggest discussing it in our Windows 7 Installation, Setup, and Deployment forum. They are the best resource to troubleshoot this issue.
