Deploying Different Model Workstations with Same image.
- I have 4 differnt Model workstations. I created One base image to do my test on. The model i had created my test on i can deploy to. If i try and deploy that same image to a different model PC then it dosnt pick up the image at all.
I have been reading and it seems that only the workstations with the same HAL will be able to see the image.
So I injected all the models network drivers in to the boot image I know that works. Now i also been reading about using WAIK to setup an uninteded installation of the drivers. This part i am having trouble with. To me it isn't very clear. Now i got the install.wim file off my vista cd and used WAIK Image Manager to create a XML file. I also added x86_Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationWINPE_neutral to the answer file and specified where the driver location was along with the logon information.
I know i had to select the server on the wds and tell it to use the newely created xml file but it is still unable to see the image. So i figured that i am not doing it correctly.
I am honestly lost and would love some help with this. If you need anymore information please let me know. Thank you ahead of time for your assistance.

Hi,
If you are deploying Windows Vista, it does not have the HAL restriction. This means you can deploy one Windows Vista image to all kinds of computers as long as these computer can support Windows Vista.
As you are using WDS to deploy the Windows Vista image but cannot see it, I suggest checking the following points:
1. Make sure you have injected the latest Windows Vista network card drivers for all your client computers into the boot image.
2. The account whose credentials were entered on the credential screen does not have permissions to read the install .wim file. The image is located at \\<WDSServer>\RemoteInstall\Images\<Image Group>. Please make sure you have the permission to access this install image.
3. The architecture of the client computer (x86, Itanium, x64) does not match the architecture type of the install image. A client booting into an x64-based boot image will only be able to view x64-based install images on the image selection page.
4. Please use the boot.wim file in a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista with SP1 disk as the boot image.Hope it helps.
