An unneeded update shows as neededOne of my PCs on my network WSUS reports that it needs an SQL Express update. When I install the update the logs on the PC says that the system does not qualify for the update and the update does not install.

Unfortunately WSUS continues to show that the update is still needed by the PC. I'd like to get this update cleared from the system without resorting to declining the update. Is there any other way around this?

Thank you for your help,

Sean© 2009 Microsoft Corporation. Also, if you could identify the exact "SQL Express" update you're referring to, that would help. Finally, if you could identify all installed instances of SQL Server on that PC (best way to do this is inventory services.msc for configured instances of SQL Server under MSSQLSERVER) that would also help.
Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA
Principal/CTO, Onsite Technology Solutions, Houston, Texas
Microsoft MVP - Software Distribution (2005-2009)
Thu, 25 Jun 2009 05:13:48 Z2009-06-25T05:13:48Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverwsus/thread/1c4e5ce1-ab16-4c6f-b6ed-345a541637ed#ba55d6dd-2b00-4a3a-be72-0110d70f0d2bhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverwsus/thread/1c4e5ce1-ab16-4c6f-b6ed-345a541637ed#ba55d6dd-2b00-4a3a-be72-0110d70f0d2bEric Zhang - MSFThttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Eric%20Zhang%20-%20MSFTAn unneeded update shows as neededAs this thread has been quiet for a while we will be changing the issue type to ‘General Discussion’.

If you wish to return to this question you can go ahead and change the type back to ‘Question’.
