    Hi All,

hoping someone can help, I have researched this error a lot and have found what I need to do to fix it as described in this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee619779%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

however I do not have another server to get the files from, and they are not on the DVD, and even searching for them on the net does not find a mention of them.

    The checkSUR.log shows:

I cant for the life of me find these files anywhere! If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great thanks.

First question: Are you using the latest version of the System Update Readiness Tool?

Second question: Is this machine actually running the WUAgent v7.4, or has it been updated to the WUAgent v7.6?

If the machine is running the WUAgent v7.6 then this may be a false report from the SURT.

If the machine is running the WUAgent v7.4, then the installation may be defective.

In this case, download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe installer from

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe

and run the command with the /wuforce switch which will perform a full re-installation of the Windows Update Agent and should resolve the issues being caused in the SURT scan.

    Hi Lawrence,

Thanks for your reply, I am using this System Update Readiness Tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14668   - as far as I can tell this is the newest.

I checked WUAgent and the server has v7.4 installed, I tried to install the update that is in your link but got the same initial error 0x0800f0818The server is a DC, it also has the WSUS role and run BES Express.

    Thanks

You may find this blog post to be of some help.

    http://mumblestiltskin.blogspot.com/2010/05/windows-2008-x64-server-manager-errors.html

WARNING: I have not personally vetted that procedure, nor the blogger, so you should proceed with caution and conduct additional research prior to making any change to your system. However, it does reference a TechNet Blog for source material, so that does lend some credibility.

Full backups of your system would also be appropriate before making any changes.

Also, the subject of this thread says something about "...installing SP1"?  Did this problem occur after attempting to install Service Pack 1 to Window Server 2008 R2? Or have you not yet started the installation? Because, among other things, SP1 would have updated the WUAgent to v7.5. If you've already attempted to install SP1, and it failed, then you may be better off pursuing this question in the Server 2008 forum, where a multitude of stories exist surrounding installing this service pack to Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 systems.
