can WSUS be used to push out a single KB file ?
If so..... how do you set that up ? ....so far it appears you can grab updates of a cetian classification but I dont see where you can put a single update file ( in this case its a KB file) up to bat and then push it to all XP Computers in the domain
I have this update that my XP computers need to have in order for them to be ble to use new GPP CSE extensions so its one update for all xp computers in my domain then my newwly applied GPP can be applied

Hi,
Pls search the KB in this link: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/
If this kb is available in the above link, then it is available to the WSUS. Remember to enable the classification and product in the Products and Classifications | Options in the WSUS console accrording to the above link, and then try to have a syncing with the MU, simply search the updates by kb number in the wsus console. In general, the KB will appear on your WSUS. Approve them to apply to the clients you wanted.

Clarence

Thanks for your feedback
I went to the update catalog as instructed and found the KB I am after, and downloaded it .....not sure where it is supposed to go but in any event it is now stored on the server on which I have installed WSUS
Never used WSUS before so forgive my questions
Enable the classification? I go to that option and see a listing of Products but dont know what products/classification to "turn on" for this KB update..this particualr update enables XP computers to use newer CSE extentions in GP for GPP
thanks

All I need to do is push this one update out to XP clients I am not looking to micro rmange Microsoft updates for all my clients.
If I get all my XP computers added in my new XP Computer group in WSUS ..will they then, from that point on, always look to the WSUS server for all their Windows Updates ??

After update has been synchronized to your WSUS server, then you need to approve it for the groups you wanted in WSUS. About How to Approve : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939929(v=ws.10).aspx
After the approval, you need to wait for the clients to contact your WSUS,and patch them according to the policy you set.
As you are not familar with the WSUS, I suggest you walk thru this Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 Step By Step Guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939822(v=ws.10).aspxPlease remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. You can trigger from the client side command line using the tool WuInstall (http://www.wuinstall.com) - just calll
wuinstal /install /match "YOUR_KB_NUMBER"
Using psexec you can also automate from a central location
