Installing WSUS Console on W8

Am I able to install WSUS as a console on Windows 8 x64 if WSUS is running on Windows Server 2003?
I've installed the deployment toolkit for Server 2012 (which has native support for WSUS) and I cannot connect to my server (I receive a snap-in error) - If I try to install the WSUS 3.0 SP2 package on W8 (just to use as a console, the installer launches the program compatibility assistant, complaints that it has issues, and won't run (possibly b/c Windows Server 2012 has native support for it).
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Marty

Install RSAT for Windows 8.

Then Control Panel/Turn Windows features on or off. Under Remote Server Administration Tools/Role Administration Tools there will be the option to enable Windows Server Update Services tools.

I've installed RSAT. The snap-in error appears to be more of what the underlying issue is. Error is as follows:
====
Error Msg: "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly.
CLSID: FX{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}
====If I search the registry for the CLSID I come up with an exact match. Just not entirely sure what the issue is. I've read about issues with MMC snap-ins wanting to play with different versions of .net - but don't have enough information as to what to modify to get the snap in to function correctly.
I appreciate the help.

This is an important point. RSAT for Win2012 is a .NET 4 application.
Make sure that you have the .NET Framework v4 installed on that client.
If you don't, likely what is happening is the snap-in is trying to be loaded into MMC 3.0 -- and that wonna work.

All components of .net 4.5 were already enabled.
Appreciate the help,

I had to do a system refresh to fix this issue.

Interesting.
Perhaps another indication that Win8 is not-ready-for-primetime where the enterprise is concerned?
Having to do a full non-destructive system refresh after installing a simple toolset seems a bit FUBAR to me.
Thanks for posting back your resolution Mary.

In hindsight... that was really stupid advice I gave you.... inasmuch as .NET 4.5 ships WITH Windows 8. :-//All components of .net 4.5 were already enabled.
