    Hallo Forum,

I installed wsus in a workgroup environment. I modified the registry on a client computer. The Testclient computer appears in the wsus server gui. Its a windows 7 32 bit client.

If I open the control panel and go to "update" then it is able for me to contact the wsus server but there is also a point "search online for updates" or something like that.
I installed all updates from the wsusServer on the client but then I went to "search online for update" and I got much more available updates which are not installed previously through wsus.
But they are available through the microsoft.com servers.
I want to install/approve all the updates which are necessary for the system. How should i to that?

A second problem is the I am only able to approve updates by names - not by Operatingsystems. I sorted the list by the "title" column and "approved" all the names which have something with "Windows 7 x86" in it.
What If some systems have additional .Net installed or something like that. Some have .net installed and others not - should i approve it or not?
I bet I overlooked some importand updates for windows 7 x86 because there isn't an good OS sort feature.

What is if i some client have install office 2010 others 2007 installed - do I need to approve both?

    Thanks for helping me
    with kind regards

First step would be to synchronize all of the Product Categories and Update Classifications that are present on that system. For example, what was one of the updates you found available from WU/MU that was not available from your WSUS server?

    True statement.

What If some systems have additional .Net installed or something like that.

The updates will be reported as "Needed" and you should approve them.

If you want the Office 2010 systems to install Office 2010 updates, then you need to approve the Office 2010 updates.

If you want the Office 2007 systems to install Office 2007 updates, then you need to approve the Office 2007 updates.

Bottom line: If you don't approve the updates, then nothing will be able to install them.
