WSUS console not showing computers

Answered WSUS console not showing computers

I've been trying to wrap my head around my error logs and can't seem to fix the issue at hand. I'm trying to setup a WSUS server in a test vm enviornment. I have created my group policies and the clients get the gpo update - however the machines are not appearing in the wsus console. I'm not sure why...here is my Windowupdate log...

On what port you have WSUS installed? Try in the GPO:
    http://yourwsus:8530

    Hi Winfried,

When I got into my IIS manager I see http://hostname:8530 and https://hostname:8531 when I click on either of them - IE times out. I did a netstat -an to see if those ports were open - they appear to be listening.

You can not use IE for wee the Admin console from WSUS. Use WSUS.MSC.
Manage Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939794%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

You have to change the Adress for WSUS in your GPO to:
http://yourWSUS:8530 Now Clients are connecting to your WSUS.

    Thanks for the reply Winfried,

I went into my group policy settings and verified the intranet targeting - I had it set to just http://hostname - I went a head and changed it to http://hostname:8530 on both lines. Did a gpupdate /force on the dc and on my test client machine. Soon as the test client was rebooted and logged into the domain - I checked the wsus server and did a refesh - sure enough there is my test machine sitting in the specified group! :)

    Thanks for the help!

I've been banging my head against this one for a week now too.  Thank you for the post with the recommendation on the port redirection to 8350; this solved my problem.  Strange that I never had to add the port in Windows Server 2008 R2...  Feels like a step backwards.
