Visual Studio 2012?

Hello,
I am responsible for controlling windows update in my organisation. I have been asked to approve Visual Studio 2012 updates.
I am running WSUS 3.0 on Windows Server 2008r2. I have performed a Sync to make sure I have all the latest options from Microsoft and still no joy. There is no tick box to select Visual Studio 2012, only 2010.
Has anyone else had this problem? What do I need to do in order for WSUS to support VS2012?

Usually with newer products it takes a while to get to the WSUS product list. Specifically, Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 has not been made available either and that service pack was issued in July, 2012.Hello,

Friday, November 30, 2012 12:37 PMThats a bit poor isn't it? You would think any updates available through "Windows Update" should be made available to WSUS at the same time. Do Microsoft really want Corporate network admins settings all their workstations to update directly from MS? That would seem like bad practice to me. Thanks for the reply anyways, this is just another item to add to this weeks Microsoft let-downs after no DVD playback in Win8 and no full image backup in Win8. :(

Generally they are ... but you've made an error in your asumption here in response to the previous comment. Some updates are not appropriate, nay sometimes not even suited at all, for installation in an automated fashion. Those updates are never released to WU/MU/WSUS. The WSUS update, KB2734608, which allows WSUS v3 servers to patch Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 systems is one such beast.
Sometimes it just takes WORK to make an update available via automated means (e.g. MU/WSUS), and when those updates are ready, and fully tested, then they'll be released. This is likely the case with the SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 update. (or Not ... nobody has really said one way or the other).
Do Microsoft really want Corporate network admins settings all their workstations to update directly from MS?
No, and let's be honest -- there's nothing in this conversation that suggests this either, so let's try to keep the conversation at least on the ground. Okay?
And updating directly from MS won't make a rat's behind of a difference anyway.. if the update is not available in WSUS, it's not available from WU/MU either!
Specifically YOU asked about "Visual Studio 2012" updates. Actually you asked about the 'tick box' in the Product Category selection dialog. And you got the correct answer: "Usually with newer products it takes a while to get to the WSUS product list."
In FACT, Product Categories are not actually added to the Product Category list until an update actually exists for that category. So.... WHEN there is an update for Visual Studio 2012 that is available via MU/WSUS, then you can expect to see that entry appear in your Product Category listing. This is how it has been for eight years.
