Thanks for the quick replies.  Unfortunately the update fails with:

Product: Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer
package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package
    vendor. Action ExSignDb, location: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI80F0.tmp, command: -S ACCU-MGMT\MICROSOFT##SSEE -i
    "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Database\WSUSSignDb.sql" -l "C:\Users\admin615\AppData\Local\Temp\MWusCa.log"

And on top of that Update Services is now failing.  No clients can connect to WSUS.  Oh boy...

    Hi,

try to change the following regkey and push the update again.

    Path: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup]
    Value: wYukonInstalled

    Set it to 0

Alright, that allowed the update to be installed.  Now I have a zillion errors on the WSUS server.  And now I'm getting a new error from my 2012 clients (I haven't checked other, previously working clients).  My new error is:

0x80072EE2 -2147012894 ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT The request has timed out.

0x8024401C -2145107940 WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_REQUEST_TIMEOUT Same as HTTP status 408 - the server timed out waiting for the request.

This suggests that your client can connect to your WSUS but can't have a meaningful conversation with it.

"zillions of errors" on your WSUS? time to check the logfiles on your WSUS.

The WSUS logs have several of the following mentioning a different sp each time... spConfiguration and spReturnStateMachineTransitionEventLogEntriesFromError to name a couple.  Here's what it looks like:

Now my WSUS server isn't serving my previously working clients.  Does anyone have other ideas?  If not, how can I reverse the steps in this thread?  I'd much rather have 99% of my boxes updating rather than none.  Wow... what a complete disaster.

the stored procedure is quoting a digital signature error. other similar forum threads have suggested applying kb2734608 a second time can correct similar troubles.

I reapplied the udpate - no change.

The only thing that wasn't working before this was my 3 x Server 2012 boxes.  Now, nothing works!

Did you perform ALL of the post-installation instructions as documented in KB2734608?

I got tired of trying to fix it and just installed fresh on a 2012 box.
