Ok still in the process of getting my VM Network up and running. Have DC, SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2010 VMs. Now trying to install SQL 2012 tools on SharePoint 2010 VM. The install fails when attempting to get updates and will not reach the install stage. I have even attempted to go out and get Windows updates - it said 63 of 89 installed correctly. Now Windows update itself cannot get updates. I checked the settings and anyone can installl updates on the server. I have logged in as spadmin and as administrator directly. sqlsererror msggeneral windows update error

Any help someone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end.

Do you have any antivirus service running on this server which is preventing the updates to install effectively. Try disabling it and re-enabling again once the update installation is complete.

Also you can try using the below fixit tool to reset Windows Update Components:

    Hi Adil,

Thank you for responding sir. No antivirus running...even disabled the firewall. Still no luck. I'll try the link you provided and let you know. Thanks again.

That did not fix it either. I tried running it as Domain Admin, local admin, rebooting, etc. Still not having any luck.

The 0x80070005 is an Access Denied error. Click on Change Settings, and observe the state of the setting for "Allow all users to install updates on this computer" in the "Who can install updates" section.

Also confirm that there are no restrictions being imposed on the machine via Group Policy.
