Answered Word 2003 is opening networked documents very slowly!

    Hello!

    I wonder if anybody can help.

    I have office 2003 and am using word 2003 (which is fully patched)

    when for example I open an identical document which is quite small on both the C drive and a network share,

    on the C drive it opens up instantly but on the network it can take up to 4 mins crashing word along the way. 

    I tried doing this : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833041

    but this did not work,

    Does anybody know of a solution? any feedback is appreciated,

    Hey,

    since last week we noticed the same Problem here on all Lan-Workstations. Perhaps the problem is caused by the Office-Security-Updates last week? Remeber the Exel office-file-Validation issue with the same characteristic. 

    Clients: Win XP, Word 2k3
    File-Server: Win 2k3 R2

    Open Document, ca. 50 kb on local Drive: immendiately
    Open Document, ca 50 kb on Share: few seconds

    Open large Document, >1mb on local Drive immendiately
    Open large Document, >1mb on Share: up to 4 mins

    Servers attached Storage is running fine. Other files (pdf, xls, etc): no latency from Share while opening.

    Just thought I'd chime in on this and say I'm having the exact same problem on a users workstation who is using a VPN. Was working fine up until yesterday.

    After hours of searching, this is the most current thread i could find.

    The fix in KB280821 didn't help me any.

    Well,......about 10 mins after my last post  - I found my answer.

    Even though its an old thread, the update in the mentioned thread here was recently installed and causing my issues:

    I had luck with http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2570623 on Excel files. The issue I had was similar to your MS Word issue. Locally, the files are fine but from the network extremely slow opening. I made the recommended registry settings and the issue was resolved. It may work for MS Word as well.
