    Hi all,

    I have a little problem regarding Word 2010 when it´s used on my Remote Desktop Session Hosts. I have enabled word to use group templates on a server share using group policies. Now everytime a user shuts down word or outlook it´s asking to save normal.dotm (or normalemail.dotm in Outlook) into the shared path on the server. Copying the two files into the user´s templates folder did not work. There are a normal.dotm and normalemail.dotm in my shared folder which I have set to read only for all users.

    Has Anyone an idea how to get around this? (Except of setting the registry key):

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\WordMail]

    "ATUserAdded"=dword:00000001

    Thanks for your answers and best regards

    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,

    It seems to me that Word is looking at the Workgroup templates normal files due to a lack of a required file locally.  Even though you put it locally, Word has been using the one over the workgroup templates and will not change until you remove those normal files from that drive and force Word and Outlook to look locally first.

    That said, I would suggest moving the normal and normalemail dotm files to a different directory than what is listed for the workgroup templates.  Depending on your needs, I would remove normal files locally and let it build it's own (located where NeverQuiteSuire listed - C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates).  When you open Word and close it, it should build a new normal in that location (assuming the normal and normalemail is gone from the workgroup templates path).

    I hope this helps.

    I have had this same problem when recently installing Word 2010 on Windows 7 for new computers using templates shared on a network drive.  In my case I wasn't using group policy, I just manually set each user's Workgroup Templates to point to the network share.  When a change gets made to the template, it asks if I want to save Normal.dotx and defaults the save location to the network share, where there is a copy of Normal.dotx.  Instead of overwriting that one (which I don't understand how it got there in the first place), I simply saved over the local Normal.dot template in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.  It stopped bothering me about it after that and seemed to keep my changes, though I am still unsure if I did something wrong.
