I've been using XP mode for a while without any problems. Recently, when I tried loading it again, I got an error telling me that the integration features had failed to load. I could retry, which began the VPC loading again, or continue on without the integration components. This option simply loaded a black box without any options for user input.

I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the virtual machine. At first everything was working fine, I powered the VPC down and went and grabbed some dinner. When I came back, I was having the same issue.

I took some screenshots to make what I'm talking about a little more clear: http://img687.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=83029050.jpg

Also, I've read some similar threads and people are asking for a VPC log file stored in %temp%, yet I don't have this file. What's the deal there?

I'm having the same problem as the OP.  I've changed nothing with regard to XPmode.  I created a brand new XPmode image using the start menu options 'Windows Virtual PC' --> 'Windows XP Mode' and the new image has the same problem - i.e. 'Enabling integration features' takes a long time on the progress bar and then fails with a message box appears which says "Integration features have been disabled.  You can log on to continue without these features. To enable the integration features, you can shut down the virtual machine and start it again."

The date and time stamp of the 'master' vhd file 'C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode\Windows XP Mode base.vhd' which appears to be used to create new images has not changed.

I'm wondering if this is a Windows Update changes problem?

    I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit.

Ah!  A solution.  Not sure which of these is what it was but:

    1. I had hibernated another virtual machine in the middle of an installation of (Linux Mint).  I deleted the virtual machine but the integration features in XP Mode was still failing.
    2. Then I rebooted the host machine and tried again.  Duh!  It works now!  Who'd have though the oldest trick in the book would work?
I've seen a few references to this problem in other internet forums - don't suppose the solution for everyone will be as simple as mine! :-(

If you press shift+esc while the progress window is up, it should open up the VM window and let you see what's going on instead of just a green progress bar.

I actually don't get a progress bar anymore-I tried pressing shift+esc and now when I launch the VM a black box appears. After a few seconds I get the windows XP boot up menu (see screenshots) and then the windows loading screen. After the loading screen is finished, the window simply turns black and stays there.

Can you boot into safe mode?  It may be that the IC are corrupted.

    Hi,

I would like to suggest you test the issue in Windows 7 Clean Boot.

If it does not work in Clean Boot, I would like to suggest you disable the integration features one by one to test the issue.

    What’s the result?
