  Chkdsk checks the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors.  This is run before a defrag and during a disk analysis.  When the /f flag is specified, chkdsk fixes errors on the disk, but the disk must be locked to do this. If chkdsk cannot lock the drive, a message appears that asks you if you want to check the drive the next time you restart the computer.
  
  My best guess is that when you use the user interface to run Analyze of Defrag, those programs execute a chkdsk /f, but are unable to obtain a lock on the C: volume because there are open files on the disk.  Therefore, the program is automatically scheduling chkdsk /f to run on a reboot.
  
  I don't know if this is a change with SP3 or not.
