Task Scheduler Problem - Windows 7 Ultimate x64

After upgraded from Vista x64 Home Premium to 7 x64 all other functions were worked fine but scheduled tasks.
Scheduled Tasks open normally and I can review tasks but if I try to create new task, import one or just open old tasks properties, MMC crashes. I can create new Basic Task, but either there I cannot change its properties. If I choose at the end if creating task "Open the properties dialog for this task when I click finished", MMC crashes.
If I choose tasks condition at Task Scheduler Library for preview MMC just crash, but every other case MMC shows following information:

1st dialog window:

Title: Task Scheduler
MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it.
Option buttons: 1. Report this error to Microsoft, and then shut down MMC (Which I'm done)
2. Unload the snap-in and continue running

When clickin the second option and OK, following appears:

I have googled for solution but did not find practically anything:
There is one registry key that include two entries with path c:\windows\help\taskscheduler.chm, but if I put the file there it won't help. If I modify or remove these two registry entries, they always come back as they were.
I have uninstalled Visual Studio 2008 standard edition and installed it again. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled .net framework 3.51 via control panel, but nothing seems to solve problem. I have also taken ownership of mmc.exe and taskschd.msc ect.

Could someone help me, please... This makes me nuts

Hi,

I have recently purchased sony vaio vpccw15fg model comes with Win 7 on it with Recovery Partition.
When I installed xp it works fine, but as i want to dual boot it with my win 7. When I put my Recovery Discs and boots my laptop and repair my win 7, it does not shows xp in boot options.

I have a clean install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive. I also installed Office Enterprise 2007. I have the previous hard drive plugged into the system and am tryint to move my files across. When I try to move the outlook data files from the old location G:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Microsoft\Outlook\ to a folder on my new hard drive, it tells me I need aministrator permission to move the file. I am the only user on the system and have admin priveledges. How do I overcome this permissions garbage?

Or... how do I migrate my existing Outlook.pst file from the XP install into my new install of Outlook on Win 7?

Hi,
I was studying backup technology in W7 today. It makes new backup files each time the backup is running. It's not the same as in Windows Home Server, where the technology determines the changes and then mirrors them to the backup file. Is there any solution on how to make this "smart" backup available in default W7 Backup app?

Hello everyone.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my HP Compaq nc6000, and i really like the result. Much better than XP if you ask me.

Everything is working well except the video. When i watch videos in full screen it looks like its going on low FPS, very laggy...

I guess its because of the missing video driver... but i'm not really sure. I got the newest DirectX, and everything is okay, except i cant find a driver for my graphics.

Im sorry for my bad english, if anyone know how to solve this problem i would really appreciate it, i tryed download the driver from HP's site, it just says that the driver isnt fitting to Win7....

iexplore.exe and explorer.exe processes don't terminate

I've noticed on my Win 7 Pro x64 system that after I run Explorer or Internet Explorer, the explorer.exe and iexplore.exe processes never get deleted from my Windows Task List. As a result I end up with multiple processes running for each executable. Lately my IE8 displays an "IE crashed" message even though when I dismiss the dialog, IE continues to work just fine.

How do I get these ghost processes to terminate on their own? Thanks. thorne

I am running Windows 7. I use Picasa for downloading pics and videos from my camera. I have lost some recent pics and videos of my boys, they are no longer in my picasa folder. Two questions. One, is there a way to somehow find and retrieve them? Two, is there a better program for managing my pics, videos or other dowwloads from my camera?

W7U 64-bit Blue Screen Crash: "Bad-Pool-Header"

W7U 64-bit Blue Screen occurred during Micro-Trend Scan (Screen corrupts, followed by BS). After Normal Restart, everything seemed to work OK. Random Errors also occurred earlier with "Program xxxxx Stopped Working" message. Included in the Programs that stopped working are: Windows Explorer, Windows Gadgets, Desk Manager, Shut-Down (System reboots after Shut-Down command) and User Apps. Latest User App installed is HWINFO32 which installed with an Error message: "Program Failed: the requested operation requires escalation". The program installed and message appeared: "Windows has corrected an Installation problem". HWINFO32 works. Seems like progressive and random Kernel Korruption? (No viruses detected at the time of failure)

This is an HP S3xxx series Slimline Pavilion with AMD Athlon X2 5600+ 2.9G processor and 4G memory and ASUS 4650 HD 1GB DDR2 128-bit GPU, running ATI CCC latest software suite. Windows self-upgraded CPU Driver after detecting a recent upgrade of CPU to the AMD 5600+. Running latest version of OS.

UPDATE: This problem may be related to the CPU cores overheating! Both core temps rose steadily to the mid to high 60s when another BS appeared just as I shut down the system. Would core overheating explain these random failures?

            I have bought a computer with Windows 7 and I put it in the same workgroup as the other computers of my family. And I have had a lot of trouble with sharing folders over the home network. There's a computer with XP that Windows 7 can see and some days, I can access the shared folders on that computer, but some other days it keeps asking for the Network password . I don't even think I have a network password, whatever I tried to input there, it didn't work(I tried the user and password of the other computer, the ones on my computer, no password, it just says it's wrong and asks for the network password again). I actually never set a network password. Then there's another computer running on Vista. Here, the same problem. Windows 7 can always see Vista, but some days he asks for the network password, some days he doesn't and there's nothing that I can do to control that. The XP and Vista can both see my computer and access the shared folders with no problem.
           I have checked on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-Windows the ports, even if I have Windows Firewall and the necessary ports are open(except for the ones for domain, which I opened, checked to see if anything changes, same problem, closed them back).
           In the network settings, the network detection is on, the folder and printer sharing is on, public folder sharing is on, ask password for sharing id off.
           I really don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone please help me?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on desktop. USB External drive for backup. Desktop backs up OK. Notebook on home network Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Notebook fails on backup to drive on desktop. Cannot write to the drive, error code 0x80780047. Properties set on drive for Everyone Full Control. Passowrd set in backup. I can write to the drive from the notebook but backup can't write to the drive. Any help greatly appreciated.

There is a sound for "Windows logon" in System Control | Sounds.
This sound plays, when I normally logon in the appropriate screen with username and password. It doesn't, when I use auto-logon. Is this a feature, a bug, or just a wrong setting?

TroubleShooting Wizard

I recently upgraded to Win. 7 Hm Prem. from Vista Hm Prem.
All went very well until I realized that none of my trouble shooting wizard functions work. When I attempt to use the wizard I get msg. "An unexpected error has occured. The trouble shooting wizard can't continue." When I look at advance, it gives me error code 0x80131700.
I have tried, cmd (run as admin.) sfc/scannow, chkdsk/r, msconfig to disable all startup and svc., clean boot, and safe mode. I have Norton Internet Security. I also disabled antivirus & Firewall. I get the same results.

I installed GTA IV on my laptop which used to have Windows Vista Home Basic, and now has Windows 7 Ultimate. I got the error on both OS's, so this is not a Windows 7 issue.
I went in to it all fine and everything, went in and out and in and out multiple times, then finally I decided to log in to Windows Live. It told me there was an update for Windows Live and I must install it to stay signed in to Live. I do this and this is where the problem starts. I put the disc in and attempt to start the game, instead of the game starting I get this error:
GTA IV FATAL ERROR: TEXP70 - GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Unable to create depth render target - Please re-install DirectX and/or install the latest video card driver.
I have no clue what causes this but I have the latest video card drivers and I have tried to re-install DirectX.
If I uninstall the game and then re-install it, still no luck. I must first delete the Registry entries for Rockstar Games products.
What is causing this and how do i fix it?
I am getting a graphics upgrade at Christmas and I want this game to work so I can "break in" my new card.
How do I fix this?

I have an Intel X3100 (I know, cant even almost nearly play it, but I wanted to see...and then I ran into this and I am concerned)

I was trying to perform a backup across our peer-peer network from a Windows 7 computer to an XP Pro computer. The user has full access to the additional harddrive on the XP computer, but I get error code 0x81000039, remote share path not available. I believe this was towards the end of the backup, but I was not watching it the full time. Any suggestions?

Search does not find files that exist

I needed to find some ISO files on my USB HD. My backups are done daily so there are a number of folder to look through. Entering *.iso is the seach box, both under the Start menu and in the explorer window does not return any ISO file even though a manual search finds them. What gives? The search did return some Adobe files that START with ISO-, whatever they are.

Unable to mount VHD from CompletePC Backup

I've read several posts indicating that the VHD images created by CompletePC backup can be mounted allowing individual files to be restored selectively. This capability makes sense and would be a much appreciated side benefit from using VHDs for CompletePC backups. However...

I've been unable to mount a CompletePC Backup VHD created under build 7100 using either Windows 7's (RTM) volume management GUI or vhdmount from Virtual Server 2005 SP1. Attempts to do so indicate that the VHD "is not a valid VHD". The tracing environment variable for vhdmount provides slightly more information:

7d60f26e-080e-40dc-8986-56eef80d9194.vhd failed with error code = 0xD
[Error] The disk is not a valid VHD. Error code = 13.

There doesn't seem to be much information about Windows 7 changes for CompletePC Backup, specifically anything relating to their being encrypted or otherwise secured in a way that would prevent being able to mount them as described for Vista CompletePC Backup VHDs. This error appears for the larger VHD as well as the smaller Esp.vhd file.

I believe it's unlikely that both the large and small VHDs are corrupt but I suppose it's a remote possibility. Outside of some security feature I'm inclined to suspect that Windows 7 VHDs have other format enhancements that make them incompatible with Virtual Server vhdmount but this wouldn't explain why the Windows 7 volume manager has trouble with them.

I'll attempt a complete restore to other similar hardware in the next few days but am interested in thoughts others can provide, especially those who have mounted Windows 7 Complete PC Backup VHDs successfully.

Missing/corrupted files following installation of W7

I have just installed W7 (an upgrade from Vista), and much to my disappointment, I'm already having problems. I'm unable to locate/access files that were saved on an external hard drive. File folders come up as empty, but I know the files are there. Attempting to move a copy of one of the affected files to where the original file was saved, I get the message, "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in J:\My Pictures. Verify the item's location and try again." I tried again which, of course, had the same result.

In another area, concerning .flac-files, I'm unable to decode these files. Neither of the two programs I've tried, FLAC Frontend and Trader's Little Helper, recognize the files for what they are, in the one case (FLAC Frontend) refusing a drag-and-drop maneuver, and in the other (TLH) treating them as corrupt and non-decodeable.

If someone has any handy pointers for how to resolve these issues, I would be most grateful. Thank you.

Windows 7 wierd sound problem

Ever since I installed Win 7, I'm having a strange sound problem. Sound is working when I play music, watch DVD, you tube video's etc. But, when I'm in Internet explorer and browsing web pages, you know that "click sound" you hear when you click a web page and back out of a web page? Well that sound is absent unless I have some type of media playing in the backround, such as WMP, iTunes, you tube, etc. As long I have something playing sound in the backround, the IE click sounds work. I have loaded all windows updates, updated my sound drivers to the latest, ran sfc/scannow, I even did a Win 7 repair and still no joy.
Anybody have a clue how to fix this? I didn't have this problem in Vista. This is more of an annoyance than anything else.

I insatlled windows 7 a couple of days ago. installation seemed to go fine. Now sometimes when I start it up when the welcome/password screen should come up its the black screen with the white cursor. The screen is on just black. It also did this to me coming out of sleep mode. Just out of curiousity I tried to type my password in and it worked. it took me to my desktop, but I never got anything other than the backround. I couldnt do anything other than get there. If I force it to shut down and try again it normally will start correctly and sometimes it takes a couple of tries. This is ok as long as it works, but I dont like doing force shut downs, I feel it is hard on the computer. How do I fix this? If this contines I am going to Wipe it and go back to vista. I never had to worry whether or not vista would start.

I am using Windows 7 RC x64. When I connect my Seagate FreeAgent Go usb drive (NTFS) and use it for some time, Windows doesn't allow me to eject it anymore. I get the following message:

"Windows can't stop your 'Generic volume' device because a program is still using it. Close any programs that might be using the device, and then try again later."

This happens even if I all my (visible) programs are closed, even Explorer.

If I try to find who is using drive E: with ProcessExplorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx), I get nothing. But if I use LockHunter (http://lockhunter.com/?ver=&vertype=pro&sm=main_window_64) the following handles appear:

I also noticed two diferences when I compare my FreeAgent to a regular Kingston DataTraveler flash drive (FAT32):

1) Only when using DataTraveler drive I can see an "Eject" option in Explorer's context menu. For FreeAgent I have to go to the notification tray usb icon.

2) When I run "fsutil fsinfo drivetype E:" I get "removable" for DataTraveler but "fixed"(!) for FreeAgent.

I hope someone can help, I am tired to restart my computer everytime I have to remove my drive. Thanks in advance.

Opening MS Outlook 2007 after running Scanpst.exe failed even tho no errors reported

Have run SCANPST.EXE and report said no errors found, tried to re-open outllok but same error message appears, have deleted original from location it was searching but still comes up with error cant find backup etc.
As I cant get past the 1st screen with the panel showing error occued I cannot select another backup.
Does anyone please have any ideas on how to either sidetrack the Outlook screen or restore the files totally?
If I could open Outlook I could restore another copy but am at a loss to think what to do next as everything I try comes back to the message on the opening screen I cannot get past.
Am running Windows 7 with Office Pro 2007

I think I have a different problem on one of two different 64-Bit RTM Windows 7 systems. The performance test won't start. It does not apear to be related to a file and I don't go to exotic addresses.

It works on my Lenovo notebook and not on my Extreme. Windows Seven can detect that the system is not setup right by the parameter in the control board (system)

"Under Contol Panel | System the display shows "The Windows Experience index for your system cannot be completed. Cannot complere the necessary This system does not have the necessary multi-media support to run the request." Yet it does have audio and vdeo. What else does it need?

Hi, i recently installed Windows 7 on my system, i have all ways used Internet Download Manager to download stuff and never had any problem but since Windows 7 every time i leave the Pc on overnight to download every morning i find this message. Uninstalled programs still listed after System Restore.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I uninstalled a program. Then later, for another reason, I had to do a System Restore.
After the System Restore, the previously uninstalled program was on the 'Control Panel - Uninstall or change a program' list.
Obviously, the program is no longer installed on my PC, but I cannot remove it from the list.
If I try, I get the message 'An installation report file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified.'

Possible bug in windows update for device driver updates

Hello.

System is AMD 5000+ , 4gb RAM using Windows 7 Home Premium (retail) 64 bit. This was a low-level format clean install.

Everything seems to be running smoothly with win7. Until recently I have not had any issues applying windows updates.
But using wu to to update the driver "Audio - Realtek High Definition Audio" is repeatedly failing with the following log entry:

I have cleared the windows update download cache to insure that the new update is downloaded correctly.
The code 80070005 seems to be an Access Denied error, but I do not know what wu dll is causing the error, nor which file or location wu is denied from accessing.

I was able to apply the update using Device Manager. I selected the audio driver and chose Update Driver Software. Further selecting Search Automatically...., the driver installed and updated correctly.

Since the update said it was downloading the update - but the download took no time for 11MB - I believe the auto search used the same downloaded files that Windows Update tried to use.

So the problem:
Why is Windows Update failing where Device Manager Update... is succeeding?

Hello.
WU said that there's new update available for my Windows 7 RTM x64. KB976098
I don't actually remember if it asked me if I want to install it, or it started installing it on his own, but I got a Power outage during installation of the Update, and now it won't install.
I get Code 800B0100 each time I try to install it from WU. I tried downloading the update as a separate file and launching it - I get a message that it was not installed. \

I installed Windows6.1-KB976098-x64.msu, but it did not help.
I see an icon near Shut Down button, saying that it will install updates and then Shut my PC Down, but I tried it few times already and it still shows there, and WU says that there's still an update available.

Hi my issues stems from downloading the trail enterprise version of windows 7. During download the power went out and the computer turned off. Once I turn it back on windows fails to load. I am then brought to the windows recovery page. I have selected every option on the page under other options. Nothing has worked. I have tried boot manger but the only option to boot is windows 7. The only thing I havent done is go buy the software as I am still wondering if even that will fix the issue. I know its not a hardware issue all my diagnostic lights are working fine. Is there any way I can get back to xp and get this corrupt software off my computer with out buying the disc. Or better yet bring up the repair menu without having the installtion disc, becuase obvisouly I do not have a disc becuase I have downloaded the trail version. any help would be very greatful

since downloading win 7 professional upgrade ontop of win vista ultimate I have had screen flicker
i can not change the hertz from 59-60 and nvidia, microsoft and hp have said they are working on it - it has now been 2 months of screen flickering and no resolution
i have deleted the driver and done a clean sweep and install and yet the hertz will return back to 59 each time!!!???
any suggestions or hope?
do you recommend i dump the nvidia card and put another manufacturer like ati?

Why is Win7 changing resolutions when duplicating screens?

Whenever I set it to duplicate, Win7 forces my LCD monitor to change resolution to match my tv. I have made sure that I've set my monitor as the main display. Is there no way to be sure that my monitor doesn't change resolutions

Also why when using the shortcut Win-P I have to select "Projector" to change back to my monitor? Could the reason be because my LCD monitor is listed as "2"...

The notorious traking cookie "atdmt" sneaks in. How can I stop it?
It appears right after booting Win-7, even if I leave LAN cable disconnected, strangely.
Sounds like this one started after I introduced the Live Messenger which I needed.

Assigning an application to different sound outputs

Question: Is there a way to assign an application to use a sound output options in the mixer or another Win7 application?

I have installed Win7 RC 32bit. I have headphones and speaker outputs on my system. Both are detected and both can be assigned to a working default sound choice. I am unable to assign an applications sound output to a certain outputs or change them.

The only way I can make a sound application work through the speakers if the headset is assigned the default role is to go into sound management, then assign the speakers to default and then restart my application.

Desired: I would like an application profile to default to the assigned role from the mixer. The settings could be permanent or temporary. If the 1st choice is not available, use the alternate working or (default). The sound should dynamically change or at the very least keep that profile with that application until changed.

In the mixer, I should be able to rt click on the application in the mixer and manually assign it to a sound device. This option should be assigned to a default target to play ONLY if the desired is not available. Possible options can be, just one time, or have this device handle sound if available.

Hardware: Asus Rampage 2: Gene motherboard, 6GB Ram, GTX 275 graphics, Seagate 1.5TB. Drivers auto discovered on install and appear to be functional.

Username on Start Menu

Help often says click Start button and then the username but I can't see the username on there. How do I get the username to show there?
