    Hi guys and girls

I have a problem with getting my printer to work. It's a HP LaserJet P1006, and it worked perfectly on Vista / XP. I have been looking through some of the other questions about HP-printers that don't work, but non of the proposals work for me...

Does somebody out there has the "secret" answer? Thanks

I see this response may be somewhat outdated, but for anyone else working to install this printer, this may be handy. I have the same printer, and had a problem getting it to work at first as well even though it worked great on vista64. The solution is simple. I downloaded the vista x64 driver, the basic one, not with the extra software junk. It will have you unzip the files to a temp location and run the installer. The installer will place the driver in your C:\Program Files(x86)\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet P1000_P1500 Drivers folder along with some other files. It will then attempt to install the printer, but fail. After it fails, go into your device manager and update the driver from there. Manually browse to the directory I previously mentioned. Select the hpljp1005.inf file. Follow the rest of the steps to install the printer, and the installation process will complete successfully giving you a fully functional printer.

    Hi,

As Windows Vista is still in beta and HP has not released a Windows 7 driver for your printer, your printer may not work with Windows 7. I suggest trying a Windows XP or Windows Vista driver first. If the issue persists, I am afraid you have to wait for HP to release a Windows 7 compatible printer driver.

hehe, it was an attempt to be funny - obviously not working ;-)

But since someone else have had problems with their HP-printer, and non of them worked for me, that is why it still is secret - but can be brougth to the open (I hope)

I found a solution on another forum but cannot now remember how to get back to that thread, but wanted to confirm the solution.

I have Windows 7 and an HP Laserjet 1006.  Here are the steps:

Remove any HP printer drivers from failed attempts to install driver.

    Reboot.

Connet your HP Laserjet P1006 printer and power it on.

Let it attempt to look to Windows Update for a driver, which will fail.

Insert the orignal HP installation CD; but cancel the installation of the software.

Go to Device Manager and find your Printer and then perform and Update Driver, by pointing to the CD ROM.

Windows 7 will find the file [in the root directory of the CD; {don't install the drivers for Windows 98!} and install it, saying the installation was successful.

    Jim,

Were you using a 32 bit or 64 bit computer.? I will have to confront the same problem next week and just wonderd if your solution relates only to 32bit machines.

    Many thanks

    rahoonT,

I just installed Windows 7 Prof 64bit and followed the intructions and it worked like a champ.  Initially I unzipped the two files I dl from HP to a temp folder on my desktop and went to the device manager--properties--driver--update driver and couldn't find the .inf file.  You have to go to the folder you saved the "ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win64-enp" file to and double click it--follow the normal prompts and it will expand the file to reveal the .inf file.  Get it to fail to install the printer and then go back into the device manager and select "update driver" and select the folder you originally saved the file to and you will see the .inf file.  Select it and you're in like flint.
