Having just installed windows 7 my dvd drive is no longer detected.

Its a LG drive, and I CAN see it in the BIOS but does not appear in Windows explorer.  It is an IDE drive.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks.

I read in a book on Windows 7 that this is a new "feature". If there is no CD/DVD in the drive, then it will not show up in explorer. Same goes for media card readers. I had the same problem. After installing Windows 7 everything was visible until after the first reboot. After that the drives/readers disappeared. If you put in a readable CD/DVD it should re-appear.

    Hi DMaria, Ziano
i suggest you to update BIOS and drivers
    mean while perform these steps

    1. Unplug all additional drives.

    2. Using only  IDE cable put the HD where you wanted  Win7 installation as master and my DVD drive as slave.

its a manual thing after the install well just plug back the HD's and DVD's they way you had them before.

    Hi Ziano,

Please go to Start -> Computer -> click Organize on the menu bar -> Folder and search options -> on the View tab -> uncheck "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" -> click OK.

If the issue persists, please go to Start -> type Disk Management and then press Enter. Can you see the optical drives? If so, please right click on the drive and then click "Change Drive Letter and Path…", click Add, choose "Assign the following drive letter:", select a driver letter for the device and then click OK.

    What is the result?

Besides, you can run this Fix it to see if the issue can be resolved. (This fix can be applied to Windows 7 as well.)

    Regards,

    Linda
