My CD/DVD driver hung up and turned off DMA. I've tried uninstalling the device and rebooting, but it reboots without DMA working. Nero offers to turn it on for me by clicking OK, then rebooting, but it still doesn't work. How to turn it back on?

The following was generated by clicking on Help in Windows 7. It's instructions about turning on DMA.
    1. Open your device manager.

    2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers .

    3. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers , for each item that has the word Channel as part of its label, right-click the item, and then click Properties .

    4. Click the Advanced Settings tab. Under Device Properties , select or clear the Enable DMA check box, and then click OK .

In Step Four you say "Click the Advanced Settings tab. Under Device Properties , select or clear the Enable DMA check box, and then click OK ." This does not reflect what I find when I click on the Advanced Settings tab. Instead, under both "Primary IDE Channels" I show "Transfer Mode:" followed by a selection window that says "DMA if available" (which can be changed to PIO Only), below that, it says "Current Transfer Mode:" followed by "PIO Mode". There is no checkbox to enable DMA.

Under the Secondary IDE Channel, the "Current Transfer Mode" is "Ultra DMA Mode 5"
