Right now I'm working off of my old Win XP computer. I'm a programmer, working with a program that I have to give my laptop a static IP address. I need to control that address.

So here are my steps. First of all here is what i get for ip config.

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : linksys.com
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-24-D6-02-41-6A
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.132(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, November 25, 2009 10:05:26 PM
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, December 02, 2009 9:16:35 PM
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.100
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.100
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

So now, if I go to control panel, network and sharing, change adapter settings, Properties of wireless network connection and properties of IPv4 address. There I can turn off DHCP, and type in a static IP address and gateway and DNS. So I save that info. Then when I renew and release the IP config, I get a 169 address. I go back to where I changed the properties of the IP address, and all of my fields are blank.

How come it will not save my static IP address.

Thanks!

RudyWed, 02 Dec 2009 03:38:00 Z2009-12-02T03:38:01Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/f946773b-5e24-4c63-8655-4ac2bd79c5e8http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/f946773b-5e24-4c63-8655-4ac2bd79c5e8GX400http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=GX400Cannot authenticate to Windows 2000 share on workgroup after upgrade from Vista to Windows 7After upgrading a PC from Vista to Windows 7 (32), I cannot access a share on another computer on my home network (workgroup).
I can see the machine, but it prompts me for a login. I can't login with a pw I know is correct. I've tried win_2000_machine_name\user_name and .\user_name
when I just type in the user name, it assumes it is win_7_machine_name\user_name
I've tried opening up the file share to everyone, but still no luck.

Thanks,Tue, 03 Nov 2009 01:16:11 Z2009-12-02T03:39:16Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/eb312b40-52b0-4530-8551-2b1186d0bbb3http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/eb312b40-52b0-4530-8551-2b1186d0bbb3dsamuel007http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=dsamuel007[Network] Create a Shared Folder | access is not possible on own Share - feature or bug?
Hi there,

like the title already mentioned, I am able to create a Share which is visible in the explorer "Network" My problem is a little different than most similar posts I've read, though, as I'm using a router and switch. This just started a few days ago, first I thought it was my switch. Nic lights were off on the pc and no activity was taking place on the switch.. if I plug the cat5 in straight from the router, I have instant activity and no problems. Sometimes if I change the port I'm using on the switch, it will mysteriously work but once after my computer woke from "sleep" the "network cable unplugged" message was there again. It's definitely NOT the switch since I've tested other devices in the same ports as the windows 7 computer. The switch is a Linksys 8 port gigabit.

The last thing I had installed before this problem started happening was Adobe CS3 suite and flash player.. I'm not sure if that's related. I'm going to try booting into safe mode with networking and see if it will work well with the switch.

I'm confused why I have activity while straight to the router and most of the time none (now) when connecting through the switch. Perhaps it's a matter of time before it stops seeing the router.

I'm away from said computer at the moment, but I will post more details about actual nic model later. The drivers being used are realtek's newest version. (I believe it's 7.3xxx) .. not sure off the top of my head.Tue, 24 Nov 2009 01:26:17 Z2009-12-02T02:25:43Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/0c69e7c7-e883-4df2-8af5-3716300c57aehttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/0c69e7c7-e883-4df2-8af5-3716300c57aeF8Fullhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=F8FullNetwork drive mapping before logon

Here goes :
I have a mapped Network drive on my win 7 system. Since then, it will not consistently connect to my router through a secured, encrypted connection (WPA1 or WPA2). I can set up the connection through Windows, and it will work for a few hours, and sometimes a full day. But invariably, the connection will be terminated, and windows will tell me that I am unable to connect to the internet. The only way I can get it to connect again is by resetting the router, and setting it up again. Using the connection troubleshooter does nothing. Also, even though my Windows 7 computer loses its connection, I can still connect with other wireless devices not running Windows 7 (Roku 1001, Mytouch phone). As of this morning, Windows 7 isn't even able to set up the router with anything but an unsecured connection.

If I set up an unsecured connection, I am able to stay connected without interruption. However, my internet speed is reduced dramatically. I have contacted Dlink customer service, and installed the latest firmware. I have also checked to see that I have the latest driver for my wireless adapter (Atheros). I even turned off the "Bonjour" program that I saw mentioned in other threads. Nothing works, and it's becoming very frustrating. I know that others are having similar problems, and I hope that someone has found a solution. Any help would be appreciated, especially since I upgraded from Windows Vista, and apparently cannot simply remove Windows 7 without wiping my whole system. If however I alt-tab out of the game (minimizing it) after entering credentials, the game will not eat up as much raw processing power and I am let online - most of the time.

Still I suffer alot lagspikes while playing - the connection drops or nearly drops at times (especially loading screens or highly populated areas). Sometimes the lagspikes are severe enough that the connection totally drops and I have to relog again. I can circumvent this by only setting affinity of the other processor core for any game - and the disconnects never happend, but it really is far from optimum to run games with half the processing power available.

Would there be any way to give wireless higher affinity? Couldn't find anything relevant from task managers processes atleast - and that would have been easy fix aswell.Sun, 29 Nov 2009 14:43:29 Z2009-12-01T19:03:10Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/85f9103a-c831-4eb4-837e-a465300c5125http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/85f9103a-c831-4eb4-837e-a465300c5125SGKENThttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=SGKENTMapped drives fail on domain at bootLooking for a solution. My computer loses connection to the internet. I have to constantly right click on the NET Icon in the system tray and choose troubleshoot. It always resets the LAN adapter. I have noticed that this happens for sure on streaming videos or Audio (like a radio station etc.) Skype works. It can happen randomly no matter what I am doing. The thing is I had this issue with VISTA off and on. Installing the public BETA of WIN7 fixed this issue and I was happy. Upgrading to RC of WIN7 and it is back. I have checked the device manager and unchecked the power setting. So it is not allowed to turn off the Ethernet adapter.Sat, 13 Jun 2009 09:49:17 Z2009-12-01T17:38:41Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/959a11b1-7545-4a30-a3a0-ec775170b880http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/959a11b1-7545-4a30-a3a0-ec775170b880DaveX86http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=DaveX86Win7-RC: No internet connection after reboot
Hello All,

Every time I reboot Windows 7 RC, I lose my internet connection. I'm on a home network plugged into a wired Linksys router bridged to a DSL modem. I can see the other computers on the local network no problem but just no internet connectivity. To fix it, I go into Device Manager, disable my NIC then re-enable it and then I get internet connectivity. I've tried deleting and re-installing the driver, looking for updates etc.

The same computer works fine under Windows XP Service Pack 2

The computer is
- ASUS P4P800SE Motherboard
- Onboard NIC, Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
- Intel P4 Prescott 2.4 Ghz, 2 Gigs ram

C:\>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

 Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXX - masked out for safety
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

 Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-2F-D5-85-BD
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::1515:e79b:9b2b:2758%11(Preferred)
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, August 01, 2009 6:29:04 PM
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Monday, August 03, 2009 6:29:08 AM
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 234885423
DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-11-B7-04-49-00-11-2F-D5-85-BD

 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXX - masked out for safety
XXXXXXXX - masked out for safety

NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

Tunnel adapter isatap.{B61281F0-94F5-4156-8C8C-4D9C806188F2}:

 Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9:

 Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:0:4137:9e50:4f7:3794:ba3b:7aa5(Preferred)
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::4f7:3794:ba3b:7aa5%13(Preferred)
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ::
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

C:\>
Sun, 02 Aug 2009 14:34:40 Z2009-12-01T17:31:04Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/d23e5607-2ea0-4613-bf74-19dfc392f4e1http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/d23e5607-2ea0-4613-bf74-19dfc392f4e1kennyferrellihttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=kennyferrelliCan't share folders with photo frame and AudiotronI have a computer loaded with Windows 7 on a network with one other computer running Windows XP, a wireless digital photoframe and an old Audio netwrok digital music player. The audiotron and photframe are having issues playing content shared on the Windows 7 box. This setup worked fine when the Windows 7 box was loaded with Win XP Pro. I have been able to look at the shared content on the Win 7 box just fine with the computer running XP. The frame and the audiotron can "see" The same problem goes for both my Firefox and my IE, so I figured it had to have something to do with an upgrade.Sat, 28 Nov 2009 16:31:47 Z2009-12-01T00:25:22Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/5176629b-7f25-45fa-9742-2f759bc05480http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/5176629b-7f25-45fa-9742-2f759bc05480Tersterhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=TersterDownload from Win 7 to Server 2008 R2 Network Share.... hangsHi. I've been running Windows 7 and Vista and XP on my home network/domain. I recently upgraded from Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2 (64-bit). After doing so, when i download a file from the internet, from any workstation, to a network share, the download is nearly immediate but then when it reaches 99%, it hangs for upwards of 30 - 40 seconds.

For example, i can download Adobe Reader, a 32 meg file. Takes about 20 seconds to download.

If i download to my local workstation, again, 20 seconds and it's done.

However, if i download to a network share, 19 seconds in when the download reaches 99%, it hangs for another 30 plus seconds.

This never happened under Server 2003 and i'm completely lost.

Any suggestions?

I was reading these articles about enabling the Firewall Inbound/Outbound rules on the server for BranchCache services, but that didn't resolve the issue.

Please let me know what other information you might need and/or if this has been reported by anyone else.

The one other thing I noticed after the upgrade...

My wife and I both keep our PST files for Outlook 2007 in our home directory so that regardless of what machine we may log into, we have access to our email. Our PST's are in excess of 600 Megs. I personally have 5 PST's, she has 2.

Outlook opens normally and functions normally but then for no apparent reason, it just freezes up/goes to NOT RESPONDING.

I feel that this is related as again, this never happened under Server 2003.

Lastly, i enabled ROAMING profiles under Server 2003 and logging off and logging into whichever workstation was very quick. Once i moved to Server 2008, and then enabled Roaming Profiles, i now have about a 3 minute wait as i shut down a workstation and close to a 3 minute wait when logging into a workstation.

My Server is overkill with a Q6600 processor and 4 gigs of ram.

My Workstations include one Q6700 processor with 4 gig's ram and the other's are all Dual Core 2 machines, each with 4 gig's also.

I'm also on a wired ethernet GIGABIT network.

Sadly, all i can say again is that under Server 2003... everything worked flawlessly.

AND NOW... MY DISCLAIMER! :)

I plead ignorance because even though i have fairly good equipment and network infrastructure, I am not a wiz at this stuff. I do it to learn and have fun. I am not an amateur, but i am far from an expert too.

The main reason i have not gone over to Windows Home Server is first, it's 32 bit, second, i lose the ability for drive mappings, 3rd, i can't "log into it" like a domain, instead i log into local acct's which then log into the home server and 4th, i can't just put in a hard drive with data on it. It wants to wipe the drive, so i first have to make a backup and then manually transfer all that data over once the drive is installed. Also, i don't know the best configuration, meaning... use 2 80-gig drives for the OS partition and then 2 Large drives for data (one for data, one for mirror) or put in 2 very large drives and be done. I can't find that answer. Lastly, WIN Home Server is based on Server 2003 and next year Win Home Server V. 2 will be out. It will be 64 bit and i'm going on a limb and guessing that IT WILL BE based on Server 2008 technology.

Anyhow... i detour. I only throw this out because many that i have told about my "hanging" issue, ask me why not just move to WIN Home Server... and i don't have enough answers yet.

Sorry... back on topic, I have done multiple things to test... and nothing works, so far.

For example, I did a CLEAN INSTALL of SERVER 2008 and several workstations (WIN 7 PRO). No effect. I have disabled the firewalls on workstations and server as well as turned off Windows Defender on workstations and server and that did not help.

This issue occurred both before and AFTER installing Antivirus solution.

I am NOT using raid on my server except for Mirroring which is on the primary OS drives only. Meaning, i have an 80 gig HD for the primary OS (which contains the HOME folder as well as the Roaming Profiles) folders. I then have a 2nd 80 gig identical HD for mirroring. Both are NTFS and both are BASIC drives.

I then have 5 more HD's ranging from 320 GIG to 750 GIG in size. Half are BASIC and the other half DYNAMIC. ALL are NTFS and all are SATA drives.

I have changed share permissions and file level security permissions to EVERYONE and FULL ACCESS and that did not resolve the isssue.

I made one of my drives in the server a single partition and downloading to that drive made no difference. Otherwise, my drives each have between 3 and 5 partitions each and i Map to each using a basic NOTEPAD file with a .bat extension. I also found a book on how to write login scripts using VB format, i was successful in creating a script in NOTEPAD and then using the .VBS extension but that too, did not work. SO it's not the login script, as far as i can tell.

My home directory is specified in the AD User & Computers and not the login, but that didn't seem to be a factor either. Still hangs if i download to my home directory, right at the end of the D/L.

And lastly... i have checked the various event viewers/logs. DNS, AD, Event Viewer for Security, Applications, etc... and nothing is out of the ordinary. No errors other than my time server is set wrong. LOL

A friend suggested that there mght be some kind of "security" setting in the firewall on the server, NEW to SERVER 2008 R2, which looks at the data that is downloaded from the internet from a workstation which is then to be stored on a HD within the server, differently than under Server 2003.

That's what lead me to these forums and reading about the BranchCache... but enabling those inbound predefigned rules did not seem to help.

Ok, that's all i have. Sorry for rambling... i'm just trying to be thorough.

Any advise... would sure be appreciated.

I'm now wondering if it's some kind of DRIVER issue on the server mainbaord... and whether i need to ugrade the board???

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can throw my way!

Sincerly,

TersterSat, 28 Nov 2009 00:32:12 Z2009-11-30T23:32:29Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/1d71f78e-0069-481c-91f4-51656320568ahttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/1d71f78e-0069-481c-91f4-51656320568aDexSKhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=DexSKUPNP Router configHi there. I wonder where the router config went. Under XP I had an "Internet connection" in the network connections, which turned out to be my router config, a properties panel where I could find my currently mapped UPNP ports, and eventually add or remove some of them, without accessing the built in web interface. Under Vista this was done in the Full network map through the Gateway icon. Same thing for Win7 Beta/RC. What about Windows 7 final release? The gateway is unclickable.
Thx for any insights.

Dex

-sys specs: Win7 Ultimate x64 RTM, Gigabyte MA790x-UD3P, Athlon 64 x2 5400+ Black, 8GB DDR2 SDRAM, dual Radeon 3870 512MB, Edimax router
System Specs: Windows 7 x64 RC Build 7100, AMD A64x2 5300+ Black @ 3GHz, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 800MHz, Gigabyte GA-MA790X DS4 Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB GDDR4, SB Live24 SoundMon, 30 Nov 2009 23:02:25 Z2009-11-30T23:02:26Zhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/b378c7a7-c66d-4812-ae54-59d138fe5c5chttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/b378c7a7-c66d-4812-ae54-59d138fe5c5cWestcor Helpdeskhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Westcor%20HelpdeskWindows 7 rc: Network printer install issue.Trying to install a network printer in new release Windows 7 RC while logged on to a domain and we get the following error: Windows cannot find printer "operation failed with error 0x0000000d".
