I tried to install virtual server 2005 r2 on my vista. I got a popup window saying,

The installed version of internet information services (IIS) does not allow multiple web sites. The virtual server administration web site will be added as a virtual directory under the default site.

    Website port:

What is the port number should I choice from?

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

That is correct. If you run it under Vista you cannot change the port number. On a sever, the admin website runs using port 1024. In Vista you use the default http port (port 80) and the admin website is a directory under the default website (as the message explains).

can you please clarify "portal number"?

i think it's only meaning that you should access to the admin console by typing http(s)://localhost/something

somethign is accordingly to what Virt. Dir. you can see under the default web sites in IIS.

Sorry my typo. Actually I am asking for the port number.

I tried to run the Visual Server 2005 R5 setup.exe on my vista machine, I got a pop-up window asking for the port number

The installed version of internet information services (IIS) does not allow multiple web sites. The virtual server administration web site will be added as a virtual directory under the default site.

    Website port:

Also i found the port number text box is disabled. There is no way for me to enter the portal number.

    Any idea?

    Thanks
    Peter

I don't ever install the web components. I use VMRCplus to administer it without any need for IIS. http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?FamilyID=80adc08c-bfc6-4c3a-b4f1-772f550ae791&displaylang=en. It's a better way to administer Virtual Server.
