I've heard about this Confiker malware and just had McAfee alert re: Virus Removal 2009 program has been detected as malware, I instructed McAfee to remove. Fearing possibly damage has been done, still trying to remove all traces.   When I went to control panel it wouldn't uninstall, only removal.  Adaware & McAfee scanned and found nothing. Performed search, found vrm2009.exe-02B553A6.pf  Is this file worm/malware corruption? Pls identify if it's necessary to delete this file? At this moment am performg full scan at safety.live.com.
Any suggestions in basic laymen's terms please is appreciated.

    Hi,

vrm2009.exe is part of the fake virus removal tool. The pf extension show that it is a windows prefetch file. prefetch files are used to enhance the startup time of windows. The pf file itself is not infected because this file does not contain the specific vrm2009.exe. It contains info on when the file during startup is accessed so that windows can laod faster. virus remover 2009 is not conficker by the way. virus remover 2009 falls in the category of scareware where it tries to lures users in thinking that theri system is infected and then pay a license to "clean" the system. Problem is is that these kind of software can be very hard to completely remove. I suggest running a full system scan with up to date av software to see if any malware is still left. Try Windows defender. It should be able te completly remove the malware.

Here also a complete guide on how to remove virusremoval 2009 by hand or use the removal tool.

I hope this has helped you.
