Outlook 2003 help needed
My Outlook 2003 was working fine until I upgraded QuickBooks from 2006 to 2009 and upgraded Java. Now Outlook will not open. It seems to be in a loop of trying but doesn't do anything. I live and operate off this program. Can anyone help? It runs on Windows XP.
Thanks

- First thing I would do is check the event logs. Have you tried a repair?
Hank Arnold (MVP - DS) - How do I check the event logs? I did try a registry repair via registry repair download. I defragged, virus software & nothing changed.
- Hank, I should also say that Outlook wants to start in Safe Mode, but can't do that either.
Event logs: Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer
Repair: Start/Control Panel/Add Remove programs
Double click on Microsoft Office and select the "Repair" option.
Hank Arnold (MVP- DS)- Hank, Thank you for your continued response. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner but it was a busy day.
I did look at the event logs & they are jammed pack with data. What should I be looking for? I see a lot of "error' flags amongst them.
Also, I didn't find a repair where you indicated, but I did do a system restore to the day before I did any upgrading but that didn't repair the problem. As a matter of fact I lost the internet connection too then. I however, did do a repair from a "Free WIndow Registry Repair" I found on "Downloads.com", but that didn't solve the problem either.
Appreciate your continued help.
Evan - No problem. I only look at this stuff in the AM before I go to work.
You are looking for errors that mention Outlook or MS Office. A very useful site to trouble shoot errors in the event logs is http://eventid.net. You enter the event ID and the source and you will get a listing of other folks' experiences (and solutions).
What do you see when you double click on "Microsoft Office ....."? You should see two buttons: "Remove" and "Change". If all else fails, try re-running the installation CD. YOu should get the option of removing or repairing the program.
Hank Arnold (MVP - DS) - Hank, my concern is if I re-run the installation CD I will lose all of my data. Is that likely?
I will spend time on this issue tomorrow - Friday - out of the office all day & too tired upon return to tackle. I fould eventid.net very informative & will pursue further.
I did restores as well as repairs along the way to no avail. Should you have any other ideas please share.
Thanks again.
Evan - Not likely. A repair will just reinstall the program. Your data should remain intact.
Hank ARnold (MVPN - DS) - Hi,
Thank you for the post. I would suggest posting your question in one of the Discussions in microsoft.public.outlook.general located here:

Hope that helps!
Have a Great day!
