    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to create a new hire form using the Authoring Tool in SCSM 2012 beta.  So far I've tried this a number of ways and I cannot get any of them to work correctly.  My overall goal is to have a Service Request available through the self-service portal that asks for the following.  Can anyone explain the easiest way to do this or help me fix one of the errors I'm getting?  Thanks!

    • FirstName
    • LastName
    • Manager
    • Department
    • StartDate

    I tried a few ways:

    1.  Extended the Service Request class and added the prompts as new Properties.  I save my MP and import it in SM.  I can see the extensions in the SM Console but get an error when trying to save an SR from the portal (literally just says 'Cannot Submit Request'.  I've checked the event logs on the SM server and the SharePoint/SM Web front end and found nothing in application or system.

Basically I followed this step-by-step except used an SR instead of an incident.  I also tried an incident just to see if that is the issue but go the same error:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5RSGAPwA9E

    2.  Created a new MP, a new class, and a new form as seen here: http://contoso.se/blog/?p=1945.  I didn't do anything with Orchestrator.  When I try this and import as an unsealed MP I get the same error.

I tried to seal the MP and get the following error

We did two things to resolve this issue.

    1.  We rebuilt the system in the RC.  This fixed the issues we had importing MPs.  It was also just good to have a clean start on the system.

    2.  We used CMDB queries and mapped them to the Related Item within the query.  This seems to be the best way to do this and fixed our problem.  Going this route stopped us from having to extend or customized the SR Class in the first place.

    3.  I like that article...the top screenshot is from our system :)

    Thanks!

    Tom

Could you expand on your method using the CMD queries and give some examples?  I am using the same method you originally used (extending the SR class) and it works fine but I'm always looking for simpler ways to accomplish this.

    Thanks

Hey I was wondering if you could expand on your solution regarding CMDB queries and mapping them to the Related Item within the query?

    Thank you!
