Sorry if this is documented... I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

I'm thinking of setting up a secondary DPM server in a DR data center.  The primary DPM server has several protection groups with retention time ranging from weeks to months.  I don't need to retain all that old data in the DR data center.  Can I set the secondary DPM server to retain only the last couple of days of data, thus reducing my storage requirement?  Can I set the secondary retention time per protection group?

Finally, is there any easy way to estimate the secondary server's storage requirement?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Quick answer are Yes, and Yes, DPM secondary protecion allows you to specify the retention period to fit your requirements per protection group.

For the REPLICA volumes, the space requirements would be equal to the USED replica space on the Primary DPM Server.  For RECOVERY POINT volumes, you can look on the primary dpm server and divide the total USED space on the recovery point volume for a datasource and divide it by the number of days you have recovery points for it to get an average per day, then multiply that average by the number of days you want to retain on the secondary.   That should give you a "ballpark" figure for setting it up.
