I have an issue with a user attempting to recover a deleted folder. When he attempts recovery this message pops up:

"Outlook was unable to recover some or all of the items in this folder.
Make sure you have the required permissions to recover items in this folder and try again. If the problem persists contact your administrator."

An event is also generated in the application log on the Exchange server:

"/o=XXXXX/ou=XXXXXX/cn=Recipients/cn=XXXXX" exceeded the maximum of 500 objects of type "objtFolder".

The user does have a huge folder structure but I'm not sure how many. The strange thing is that he is able to recover other folders that he has deleted.

Should I try increasing the limit on a temporary basis to see if the folder can be recovered?

    Hi Parker,

Yes, I think that you can temporarily increase the limitation to check whether the folder can be recovered.

After recovering the folder, I suggest you move some items from Mailbox to PST.

    For your reference:

Your Exchange Server 2003 computer may stop responding after a MAPI client opens more than the default value of certain server objects

Outlook users experience poor performance when they work with a folder that contains many items on a server that is running Exchange Server

I quadrupled the limit on folder objects and still have the same result.
When I look at open folders in System Manager it doesn't appear that the user has anywhere near 500 folders open.

I have a couple of questions related to your answer:
Here is another article related to this:  http://exchangeserverpro.com/error-outlook-unable-recover-items-folder#comment-7127

    1) Can this apply to Exchange 2007 as well?  If so, where can I find the listing of the default values if the registry key cannot be found?
    2) if you remove the reg key when finished, will it automatically revert back to the default value?
    3)  What is the performance impact for increasing the value?

    4)  Do you need a reboot after the reg key is added or can you wait a small period of time for it to take effect?

    Thanks
