Yes, but it's not a very good idea if this client will be connected to an internal network from time to time...

Hi
You might want to clarify what you mean by "monitor". Are you looking at availability metrics? Performance metrics?
If the notebook is running an OS that an agent is supported on then the quick answer is yes - there are client monitoring management packs. Obviously the notebook needs connectivity to the SCOM MS and the client MP doesn't alert on client down (as it assumes that desktops are meant to be shutdown). It does create a business critical desktops group which you can manually add desktops to if you do need alerting on desktop down (e.g. for desktops that run critical applications).

Agree. it is possible. however do not expect continuous monitoring as client is not always connected. turn off the agent heartbeat notifications (when it is disconnected all the time). The agent will cache performance monitoring and other monitoring data when it can not reach the scom server. To be honest I expect that to only last for a few days at most before it needs to connect to scom server. You can do that through a VPN/Directaccess/publish the scom server (be sure you know what you do there).

You don't need to turn off the heartbeat notifications for client monitoring - it is disabled by default for desktop OS.
If the client is running a business critical application then you can add that client to the business critical desktops computer group to monitor it for heartbeat failures \ computer down.
