Pregunta Content organizer rules with Office 2003 and Office 2010

I have setup an content rule (Sharepoint 2010) which places word documents from the drop-off folder to the right document set. The documents are created with office 2003 and put in the drop-off folder. The timer is set for every 5 minutes. When I create an document with Office 2010 and put this document in the drop-off library, the content rule is immediate actief and put the document in the right place. Even if the timer is disabled. When I have the document on my screen, the path (save as)  is also change to the new document set. When there is already the same document I get an error and you can't check out the document. With an office 2003 document the path is not changed and is still the drop-off library. Does anybody known about this different behaviour between Office 2003 and Office 2010?

    Hello,

I just tried simulating this issue in my environment and I was NOT able to reproduce this issue.
For me, the documents created using both Office 2003 (SP3) and Office 2010 (SP1) which were submitted to Drop Off Library, were successfully routed to their respective destination document libraries (immediately) based on the rules defined in the Content Organizer Rules.
    Note:
    1) My SharePoint Server is at latest build i.e. SP1 + Feb 2012 CU (14.0.6114.5002)
    2) My Content Organizer rules are based on Title = value

    Hallo Nishant,

The content organizer rule works indeed for both Word versions. The problem is when there is already a document with the same name. The rule will be activated when the document is save in the Drop-off Library. Because there is already a document with the same name there is displayed an error in Word: "Upload failed - The server can only upload the changes if the document is checked out" (Original was in Dutch).

I see also not a button to checked out this document; only a button "save a copie".

Have you any suggestions to solve this issue?

Note: My sharepoint server is: SP1 + juni 2011

    Ger Valentijn

    Hello Ger,

Thanks for clarifying. When you say "a document with the same name there" do you mean in Drop Off Library or in the destination (final) Document Library? Asking this question as I dont think a document will stay in Drop Off Library if it matches a Content Organizer rule.

    Hello Nishant,

The problem is when there is already "a document with the same name" in the destination Document Library.

    Hello Ger,

I have a document named Doc1.doc saved on Desktop. Using Word 2003, this document is opened and saved to Drop Off Library, it gets saved successfully. This document is going to reside in the Drop Off Library till the time the "Content Organizer Processing" timer job (This is a per web app timer job and default frequency is once daily) runs. Once the job runs the document is successfully moved from Drop Off Library to Destination Record Library with the same name.

Now I open the same document Doc1.doc again from Desktop and save to Drop Off Library, it gets saved successfully in the Drop Off Library. Once the "Content Organizer Processing" timer job runs, the document is successfully moved from Drop Off Library to Destination Record Library however the name has been appended with a random Document ID.

I am not encountering any errors with any steps. Please provide the following details
    1) Details about Content Organizer Rule
    2) Exact step-by-step instructions how to reproduce this issue

    Hello Nishant,

I have discover that when I set off the "explicit check out" from the destination document library it works fine. The document gets more versions; the name of the document stays the same. Somehow the content rule can't check out the document or it gives you no window to check out the document. Have you test it with a destionation document library that has the "explicit check out" setting on?

Details about the content organizer rule:

    • Priority and status: actief and number 1
    • Conditions: none
    • Destinationlocation: document library "/zaken"; automatically makes a map with a nummer (field of the document);
    • Destination map is normale already created; The document library contains "document sets".

    Regards,

    Ger Valentijn
