send email outside domain using database mail

I have Database profile setup to send email to users using our domain .But if I need to setup to send email out side domain how I can do that .getting the following message
Message
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 5 (2012-03-28T16:30:06). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (No such host is known).
)for exaple .The company name is xyz.com so i use SMTP server name smtp.xyz.com using different port number and 25 port no but did not work .
Use authentication anonymous .
Can anyone tell me whare am I wrong ?

Hi Daizy,
Based on the error message, i belive you have given wrong emailID (or) U have given wrong server name in SMTP during configuration of mail.
Once the Mail configuration completed, you need to re-start the SQL Agent Services.
Yes you can send mails to outer domain also with out any issues.

We are able to send mail to outside .The problem was I gave wrong smtp server and we updated mail server relay seeting to fix this issue .
