      Is there a quick and easy way to upgrade from SQL Server Express 2008 to SQL Server Express 2008 R2?  We have R2 on our server and I Express 2008 on my local machine.  I backed up a database on the server and when I tried to restore it on my local machine an error was thrown stating that the versions of Express were different and it couldn't restore my backup.

      You should be able to restore from 2008 (10.0) to 2008 R2 (10.5); but you cannot restore from 2008 R2 to 2008 because the Meta data information is different.  Your only option is to upgrade your express edition to R2 also if you want to restore server database on your computer.
