SCVMM 2008R2 P2V Create 2 VHD (System+OS)

Hello Everyone,
I did a P2V migration of a Server Box with Windows Server 2008 R2 (with SCVMM2008R2 SP1). the HDD system was partitionned as 1 partition SYSTEM (for bootmgr), and second partition for OSDisk (well, the default partitions to be Bitlocker ready)
So P2V did me 2 vhd (1 IDE controller, using the 2 channels: 0,1)... during the P2V wizard i don't have way to merge this 2 parition to 1 vhd...(or maybe i missed it?)
well my VM works, but it's a bit silly to have 2 vhd, 1 for the boot, another for the OS.
How can i merge this 2 partitions in one vhd ?
Best Regards,
Marc.

I do not think what you need is appicable.. you will contiune with 2 VHD files.
Please check

To merge a virtual hard disk
- Open the Administration Website.
- In the navigation pane, under Virtual Disks, click Inspect.
- Do one of the following, and then click Inspect:
- In Known virtual hard disks, select the virtual hard disk that contains the changes you want to merge.
- In Fully qualified path to file, type the fully qualified path to the virtual hard disk file that contains the changes you want to merge.
- Under Actions, click Merge virtual hard disk.
- Take one of the following actions:
- Select Merge With Parent Virtual Hard Disk.
- Select Merge to New Virtual Hard Disk, and then complete the following steps:
Type a name for the new virtual hard disk. You do not need to include a file name extension.
In Merged Virtual Hard Disk Type, select a type for the new virtual hard disk. - Click Merge.

Hello Fawzi,
Thanks for your answer. indeed i guess i can't do that. i didn't found any workaround for now.
Anyways the link you pasted me about merging a vhd, is about to merge a differencial disk to his parent (.avhd to the .vhd). this is not i need to do since i have 2 .vhd files, that correspond to 2 different partitions on the source physical disk (and not 2 LUN!)

You could use a tool named Disk2VHD for the P2V conversion which allows 2 partitions to be converted into one VHD.
When you use this VHD the OS within the VM will still see two partitions.- Propuesto como respuesta Steve TH - MSFTMicrosoft Employee, Moderator miércoles, 30 de noviembre de 2011 17:37
