- Where's the link to download the beta..? Is there a link..? I can't seem to find anywhere to download the beta..
- Is there going to be a beta SDK?
- Please what's the build of this beta version?
Thanks The beta is build 7000
Peter Forster, MVP Virtual Machine, Austria- The build number is 7000.0.081212-1400.
Microsoft MVP - Group Policy - Also available at Connect if you've enrolled for the beta there.
- John - It's now available athttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspxHowever, when I sign in, all I get is "Server is too busy".Oh well. If the server is already too busy before availability is even announced, then I have little hope...
- Have been trying but I suspect that it won't available until 12 Pacific Time.
12h00 PST is 15h00 EST ... really, its not that hard
- I have 12:15 and it is not on technet yet
Seems to be impossible to get the download from the http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx link... Server too busy at every step of the way...
- anyone have a link to get a legit key for beta ? Also I am getting server to busy.
- Yes same here. PST and links are still greyed out.
What is difference between checked and unchecked versions of the DVD download?
Windows 7 Beta (x86) - DVD (English)
Windows 7 Beta Checked Build (x86) - DVD (English)
Thank you - You would think they could develop some sort of queue system...this reclicking and server busy status is old schoooool....
- Even better...
"We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found." - This is great... now it goes directly to an error 404 page... wtf?!?
- 404 page is all I get now too.
- now its:
Windows® 7 Beta coming soon!
- Well, at least something is happening behind the scene.
I would guess some techie is busy making last minute changes before it hits live, and the "server busy" and 404 is just side effects of the work the tech does. - I think a torrent may be in order if they don't make it available to soon...
- what site r u trying on ? On technet the download is still greyed out like it been all week
- It looks like they may have pulled the download app from their system since it now throws a 404. I am sure MS is tired of their web servers getting the ____ beat out of them.
- "Windows® 7 Beta coming soon!" is all we get now at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx - I'd rather wait.
You'd never know what you'll get on the torrent sites, could be loaded with keyloggers and backdoors. Besides, you won't get a legit key on the torrent sites, here you'll get one :) - Provided I don't keel over from sleep before the site comes up again ;)
- TILT
hi hi
- How could they not be ready in terms of server load and not have alternative servers to have ready with torrent version or something along those lines.
- we didnt miss the 2.5mill downloads did we ?
Well I suspect MS figured they would have enough gear in place for this and they likely do. Problem is they are probably seeing unbelievable saturation on their network core. I would have figured they would have enlisted Akamai to assist with this release.
- I have the torrent D/L. All I want and need is to register as a tester and get a KEY!! Surely that's not too much to ask. And yes, it's the same version and MD5 key, and it's been working wonderfully since December 27!
- @Colorado Geek Boy,
Please, don't link to adware/spam sites.
@Justme,
ohh I have a feeling they are prepared for the server loads that will come once Beta 7 is made available to the public.. ;)
@Roygbiv,
I think it would be hard to miss. - roygbiv22 said:

No, we didn't miss the downloads. There has been so much buzz about this release they have been swamped all day with interest but nothing has happened yet. - I found direct downloads for the English 32 and 64 bit ISO's but of course this does no good without the Key, which is all I need.
- why would it have gone from select your language to coming soon.
- i had cut and paste to make sure I spelled subscribers corect ad I could not get the link removed
- Justme535 said:

Only Bill knows. :) - @Royg
If I'm not mistaken, the 2.5mil downloads are for public downloads only. Not including partner, TechNet and MSDN downloads. I still can't download through my TechNet link. It's still greyed out. So I don't think anyone has gotten a legit download yet.
@cledus
Share the love! I need a key and download.

It really is good to see such high demand for Windows 7, it really is a great operating system!
- just put the beta up and hope for the best...lmfao...;)is this the download link ---------> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx
World Peace. Yep runs really fast.
Is it even possable to be prepared for 2.5million downloads at once
It's like 09.01.2009 the day the internet failed- a torrent would have been a better way to go for his unless they really aren't expecting 2.5 million to try for it in one day.

Hmmm, maybe that was my problem.... No, I wasn't litterally using F5. Technically I was using the back and click method.
Rick Torrent is more for like open source projects to save money. At ~180€ for Vista SB you should expect them to have enough money for download servers
Oh and for Blizzard.... that P2P stuff was the worst....- somthing has changed on this page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx

You could count the number of licenses handed out. - OH Where Oh Where will the beta beeee...
World Peace. - Just download the direct link ISO and kick the required activation out for 120 days. You can Google how to do that. I am sure after 45 days the next release will be ready so there is no real need to get a copy that is good till 8/1/09
What has actually changed between build 7000 and 7004?
- Got a direct download going. Couldn't download the x64 edition using IE. Had to fireup firefox, but both are downloading for me now. Thanks for the tip Cledus

- It doesn't look like any of the Technet downloads are working.
- Yup, they are all hosed.
- i got it downloading now how do you get our keys....?
However, if you have the .ISO download already you can go ahead install and run Windows 7 without a key for 30 days. And then what?????
World Peace. - where did you find the download?
It seems that they have pulled the download for now as the servers were dying, which is interesting as they were working before the 'deadline' but died right after.... i guess MS didnt do anything more then nothing to prepare... as the spokeswoman said' i dont know when it will be available again'..... oh well.... its just another Mohjave experiment anyways....- dreadVista said:

everything but keys.....
- After having wasted half a day now, I will be very frustrated should I not get a key. Due to the desastrous infrastructure problems, Microsoft should give everyone a key, not just the "first" 2.5 million people. Because by now, it's impossible to tell who was among the "first". I surely was among the "first" who tried, but didn't succeed so far. Now I'm giving up trying. Why do I need a key? Because I want to give feedback that actually reaches the Microsoft engineers.
- i have noticed that the DIRECT LINK download fails in IE7 every time after a few minutes. So far so good in firefox. 20% is further than I got in all IE7 attempts.
- Does snybody have a working link yet? It seems like some people can actually download it, based upon some of the comments.
I've heard many of you mention that you have been trying for quite a while to download the Windows 7 beta. If you enable alerts to this thread (which happens automatically by default), you can watch for a message from me when the download becomes available. This way you won't have to keep trying and asking when it will be available. I will also update the "Beta Download" announcement.
Sincerely,

Lucky for some ;) - it's not working for me :( though I didn't fill up any form earlier, so that might have been why. I've tried refreshing so many times but to no avail.
- You must fill out the form before you can access the page. I went to https://profile.microsoft.com/ did some stuff there and it worked.
\/\/7F - What kind of "stuff" did you do exactly? I've signed in with my windows live id (that I use for my hotmail) and when I clicked the link you provided, most of my info is already there. Did you fill out anything different? please be specific, thanks.
- I was able to get a key, but now I have another problem. I am activated, but windows updates will not work now.
- You might want to check you automatic updates settings in the control panel. It could be set to off...
- All I did was change my name (I think). I have filled it out before, but I couldn't access the page. After I saved my name at https://profile.microsoft.com/ it worked.
- I also filled up my profile but i still get no link... this is not fair... MS need to have a backup link at the ready. and an offical torrent... Life would be easier for them and others...
- ho hum i suck at waiting ... looks like they killed the 64 bit key link , it just goes to the win 7 site
- Make sure you are loged into the technet website
- i am logged into the tech site. but do i need to buy thier sub? if i do well i am out of the picture. if so we will need to do something.
- no, you just need to be logged in there to be able to access the key websites, in which there is a lot of f5'ing to try and get a key.
You can try the links explained on this site.
http://blog.hznet.nl/2009/01/10/how-to-receive-a-valid-windows-7-key/
EDIT:I finally got a 64-bit key. took me probably 30 min of refreshing to get the key. You're pretty lucky when you get the page :P
- I tried this https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-64/enus/default.aspx, didn't work for me, keep getting:
Error
The site is currently experiencing technical difficulties, please check back in the next business day.
Wilson - That's where the a lot of "F5"ing comes in. If you keep refreshing the web page, you will finally get the code, but only once, so make sure you look every time you push the key. You just keep refreshing and hoping!
- omg. this is not working.... i dont want to do the alternate way... i want to be legal!!! come on f5!!! be my luck!!
- I was like omg for the 30 min I was doing it. Just keep to it, and it will work eventually!
- 400 f5 later...
no good
- i had to sign out and then sign back in and i got it in under ten tries
- do another 400 f5's
It will work eventually. I got the 64 bit key. Seems that that one is the easier one to obtain
- is this the site am i suppose to see all the time to refresh? Problem?
- no, it should be an error page, saying come back the next business day with a few other things
- dang it!!! ff or IE?
- I changed to IE to get this. Seems to be the better choice for the microsoft website
- my finger is getting hurt already
25 f5's and still nada :(
robin
- i have ie 7 open and ff
i am typing in ff
clicking in ie and still nothing
robin
- Been trying for over an hour, now getting Microsoft Search page instead of the Error page. Hope it will install without the key until I get my key, doesn't look like it's happening tonight.
Wilson - It took me about 11 refreshes to get it..... YEAH! But I will have to download it elsewhere as the download link wouldn't work.
- ff or ie? Does it really matter much? They both time out.
I had received mine in ff a few hours ago now by this method and have win 7 activated.
It will probably take a bunch more than 10 tries.
If it is still working it will work.- EditadoNorth7 sábado, 10 de enero de 2009 3:38
- i was using opera and ie and got it in opera first.
- Seems like there is no getting the key. I've been at this for the last 19 hours and still nothing.
- hmm...
this "solution" doesn't work for me.
At first, when this method got public I got the Microsoft search page when I tried that link and now, regardless if it is with FF or IE, I'm redirected to the Windows 7 home page. I have never seen that "ERROR" page once. :( - i still cannot get windows 7, i was hoping to get it this way. I tried getting windows 7 but the first time it died half way through.
the second time it said it would take 10hrs and i am on broadband. I thought it was me but i just downloaded a 1.5 gig file and that took 20min. so this has to be a microsoft server problem.
anyone know if another link i can pick up windows 7?

i have a downloadmanger in firefox and it is downloading now and it says it will jumps from 10hrs to 3hrs t0 5hrs buaqck up to 2hrs and up and down and up and down, mostly staying at 8-10hrs? why the heck should it take so long to download a 2gig file from microsoft?
robin - Hey, so check it out. I was attempting to download earlier today on my laptop and got to the fill in page before it failed. Then I had been trying this F5 trick for the past 45 minutes to no avail (i logged into the profile center and all that jazz). Still no luck. Then when I went back to the laptop of my initial download attempt, that trick took in the first or second try. Hope this helps somebody. So, if you did get to the "fill some fields in page" of the download process...that trick should work. But it seems to be hooked to your windows passport and the computer...(windows cache). BTW, I had killed my internet cache earlier today and that doesn't seem to matter.

I've never liked that download manager plugin on FF. Try installing IDM and let it download the file for you. Install, restart FF, load the page and right clcick on the ISO link and select "Download with IDM". I've just checked the links and I'm getting 900kB/s flat, which are my absolute maximum transfer speed. - I got an email that linked me to the partner page where it says it will be available to all partners. I'm sorry for my post and deleted it.
But which EULA? Windows 7? because I did not see the restriction, nor have accepted it yet (still reading).. - I see some changes. There's an official link on Windows 7 homepage, I choose version, then sign id via live id, and it generated my key. Download button still don't work.
- It seems like the system is crashed again. I made it through selecting the OS and verifying email, then it keeps directing me to a page that doesn't exist. When I try to do it again, I can't even get to the page where we log in.
- Official Beta Testing Phase started. There's a download link on the homepage of Windows 7: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx
Impossible is nothing - Works for me like a charm.
- Yay! It's working!
I have a concern, though:
Last night I got a key that seemed to be saved to my account. Just now I got a key that was different, and then when the page refreshed after loading the download manager a THIRD key shows. Did I just waste two keys for someone else, or will they be "recycled"? - YAY!! Everything works now... My 32-bit download is taking forever though, slow download speed :/Also, how will the 2.5 million limit work? The keys are the same...
- Okay, though I truly dislike the blue splash screen (it makes me think of drowning), I have to admit that seeing the betta fish on my beta desktop actually made me laugh out loud. I'm glad to see that this is to be fun...
- "ohh I have a feeling they are prepared for the server loads that will come once Beta 7 is made available to the public.. ;)"
LOL
I was downloading when they crashed yesterday. Now, well over 24 hours later, and they are still scratching their heads? Hey Microsoft, hang up on the support call to pcsafety, XP SP2/(now3?)-they've never been able to assist my crashes either--until months down the road after they received additional calls for the same problem!! Hence why your still working on that big reoccuring problem gdi..... patch/repatch/patch/sp3/patch - I was able to get the download started on one machine, by going to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx and choosing the version, page showed with product key and let me download.
now I am on a 2nd machine and trying to download the 32bit version and keep getting directed to
https://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-32/enus/default.aspx
after selecting english 32bit version... I got the product key for this one the other day, from my mac but wasn't able to get the download to work. I have tried neowin's download and other direct downloads but they all fail around 300mb
I have signed out of windows live Id, deleted cache, tried both IE6 and FF3 and even restarted but to no avail. does anyone have any advice to get the download working? - I'm getting the same page. I've been redirected to that page since Friday.

Well, I guess posting here worked. I tried it again and got it to work. D/L'ing now! - The reason that the download didn't start on the Mac is probably down to the browser
I wound up with a LOT of keys trying in Firefox and never got the download button to work
Switcxhing to IE 6 for that did work (FF worked in everything else - just not the download link)
- I'm trying to download the Windows 7 beta, but nothing is happening. I'm not getting any type of errors like server busy or anything. I've tried from three different computers to see if I get the same results and I do. When I click the "Download Now" button, I see in the Status Bar that it says "Waiting for www.microsoft.com" then it goes to "transferring...." and then "Done" after a sec or two and nothing starts downloading.
Nothing seems to be happening, is this an issue that others are having?
- I know this one expires on August 2009. Wll this be the only beta? or will Microsoft issue another one, or will microsoft just issues windows updates to update this one?
and if there is another beta will it be posted here in this forum?
thanks
robin
- Well, I figured out what the issue is. Windows 7 Beta will only donload using Internet Explorer. I was using Chrome and Firefox, once i opened IE, the download started.

We have no announcements about additional releases at this time, but certainly, any additional information will be announced in these forums. You can also check the Springboard Series for Windows 7 page on TechNet.

I have this on virtual pc 2007 sp1 so i wanted to know so when the next comes out i can delete this one and install the next one.
Hopefully Microsoft will get all the kinks out by then because since i can run it virutally i want to be able to show it to my clients and also i give free seminars now on How to keep your computer safe- and also on Taking the fears away from purchasing a PC with Vista. This way I will be able to give them a glimpse of Windows 7 too :)
I give these free seminars to non profit organizations at least 2 to 3 a month.
robin - For those with the download, check out the handy tips on the Windows 7 beta 1 Tips page. I like the keyboard shortcut article myself.
