Here I have a pretty diverse network. Windows 2008 server; Windows 2000 server; a Netgear NAS; and a bit of a rarity, in the shape of an Apple OS X 10.5 *server*. All my XP machines and Macs connect to all these resources. Some pop up a password dialog, others don't.

I can only get the Win7 beta to connect to the Win'08 server. This is both by browsing, and by typing in the paths using "map network drive". When I attempt to connect to my Apple (\\leopard\shared) I get an "error 50" out of Win 7, but no more information on what might be wrong, than that.

Any suggestions? I can't see any info via Google amongst the storm of blether about Win 7 in general. Can I be the first person to try heterogenous networking with the beta?

    Hi,

If the issue occurs when you access the MAC computer from the Windows 7 beta computer, or access the Windows 7 beta computer from the MAC computer?

The following article may be referred.

If the issue persists, or the issue occurs when you access the MAC computer from the Windows computer, I suggest that you create the same username\password as the MAC system on the Windows 7 beta system. If the issue still occurs, try the following method.

    Launch Start Menu
    Search for: Local
    Hit Enter
    Select Local Security Policy
    Launch Local Policies> Security Options
Double Click on Network security: LAN Manager Authentication
Change level to: Send LM # LTLM Responses
Then, Launch Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
    De-select Require 128-bit encryption
    Hit OK
