    Hi Navarajan,

    Thanks for posting here.

So could we try to manually start it up form service.MSC console ?And did we pass the prerequisites checking during the wizard ?

    Greetings,

I was able to install the online backup service. It connected to the service, however, the backup ran continiously and I had to manually shut it down.

    Hi Navarajan,

What operation were you running when you actually saw the "..internal error.." message? We will need errorlogs to troubleshoot the issue. Can you please errorlogs from following location: <Product Install Dir>\Microsoft Online Backup Service Agent\Temp\CBEngineCurr.errlog?

Regarding failure of msoidsvc service to start, can you please look up the event viewer and share details of failure? Installation errorlogs can bbe found at: <systemvolume>\Windows\Temp\CBP*.errorlog.

    thanks,

    hitesh

    Hi Rufus,

How long did the backup run before you cancelled the job? How large is the dataset that you protected? Initial replication could take some depending on data size, bandwidth available etc. But future backups should be much faster since only changed data will be replicated.

    thanks,

    hitesh

    hi Navaranjan,

OBS has dependency on the "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant ". From logs we see that the OBS installer was not able to install Live Id assistant. You mentioned you 'skipped' the preReq check and installed the OBS agent. How were you able to achieve that?

For now, you can try the following:

1)Check if you have the "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" or "Windows Live ID client Runtime"installed on your machine. If so please start the service "msoidsvc".

2)Else, Please install "msoidcli_64bit.msi" from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=28177 and start the msoidsvc service.

Once the service starts, try registering with your org live Id.

It ran for appox 14 hours (overnight) before I cancelled it. SInce then, I have reinstalled Windows Server 8. Reinstall online backup. I ran the backup again backingup only 15GB of data. Once the backup ran for appoximately 4 hours, with the progress meter showing over 750gb of data being processed. I knew that something was wron and I cancelled it again.

    Hi Rufus,

In the Beta version, users of Online Backup have an upper cap of 10GB data that they can protect. Can you please try backing up folders/files with size < 10GB?

In case backups continue to fail, please share the errorlogs from following location: <Product Install Dir>\Microsoft Online Backup Service Agent\Temp\CBEngineCurr.errlog.

    Hi Hitesh / Rufus,

I have a similar problem. I configured a tiny backup, approx. 15 MB. (just my Downloads folder)

I kicked off the backup and it had reached 100MB transferred with no sign of stopping. I wasn't keen to leave it running all night.

Can anyone explain a reason for this behaviour?

    Thanks...

We need to have a closer look at the issue that you are facing. Inorder to analyze further, can you please rerun the backup and share the error logs with us from: <Product Install Dir>\Microsoft Online Backup Service Agent\Temp\CBEngineCurr.errlog?
