Respondida Clustering steps

im having a real hard time trying to create a simple cluster on a DC + 2 Nodes + 1 VSAN.

    using a virtual environment here.

Computers are joined to the domain just fine but when time comes to clustering, the tests pass 100% green and then when creating the cluster, it says it fails for one reason or another. First it was that it was unable to authenticate for some reason. Then I created a fresh image and tried to use that as the replacement node for the above and it just said it couldnt create the cluster and unable to clean up.

I am now recreating/cloning images again to start from scratch.

Can someone please tell me what I should look out for when creating a cluster?

What IP Addresses should I use for the private NIC? The machines have 2 NICS, 1 for public and 1 for private. the private is on the 192.168.1.x IP range (sub: 255.255.255.0)

    any ideas and details please?

using WS2008R2 EE + all updates

You cannot use cloned images to build a cluster.  You can take a base Win2008R2 image and clone it but you must do a full sysprep AND you must create the clone before enabling the clustering feature.

    not sure I follow?

I did take a base WS2008R2 image, clone them with sysprep. then after for each clone join them to the domain.....

can you guide me step by step on what I need to do? ive got the images up. joined to domain. fallback feature enabled. now what?

Sorry but this doesnt quite help me.

ive read the documents I believe but something doesnt appear to be right. sometimes the MMC snap in hangs for no reason (fresh install, all updates). Sometimes it works and validates 100% but fails to create the cluster.

it would be great if you can post from your own tests or live examples of configuration for networks (I think I have it correct) and just if there is anything I should be aware of when creating the cluster.

I dont have time to read any more documents, ive been reading endlessly :-) I need some concrete configs

got it working now! Somehow.... not sure how.

however, I do get a warning and hope someone can help?

Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed to update the DNS record for name 'w2k8r2-clstr.test.me.com' over adapter 'Local Area Connection'. The error code was 'DNS bad key. (9017)'. Ensure that a DNS server is accessible from this cluster node and contact your DNS server administrator to verify the cluster identity can update the DNS record 'w2k8r2-clstr.test.me.com'.

    this is on Node: SecondNode.test.me.com

    Any ideas?

I thought I would post more information about the setup and see what I am missing and hope you can help.

I have a virtualisation server which is for a SAN/iSCSI. This virtual machine is on IP :192.168.1.5

Here, I have installed Starwind iSCSI software.

I have created a target and there are 4 sessions active (1 from DC, 2 from clustered nodes and 1 from the virtual machine image itself)

There is only 1 iSCSI disk of 2GB

What configuration am I missing here? I am only using this as a demo so not looking for big/better. How can I setup the cluster so I can host IIS and configure it for failover?

Sorry, I am totally new at this and not sure where I stand in terms of this iSCSI storage and how it all works.

Thank you. I am unfortunately using VMWare.

I think ive managed to get the iSCSI disks to work on failover. so if Node1 goes down, Node2 automatically kicks in and puts those disks on that node in my computer. Same the other way around.

Also is a heartbeat really required here? I have been reading and most people say that there is no need with WS2008R2?

Now to setup clustering with IIS...
