    Hey GP users -

The Group Policy team wants to know how you use GP to configure power settings.

Do you use GP Preferences to configure Power Settings?  Respond in this thread if you do and throw in some detail as to how you use it (or attach the XML of your Preference setting).

Also, How do you manage power settings in XP?

    Thanks!

    Lilia,

the customers and users I work with are almost all on Windows XP clients and workstations. They're pretty happy with the available settings in GP Preferences to date. Most of the customers define "basic" settings like "turn off screen" and "stand-by" time. A question that seems to come up more often is whether there will be an option to configure wireless hardware depending on battery status and battery level (e.g. lower sending power of the wifi device if battery is low).

    Thanks,
    Florian

I would love to utilize GPP for power setting management, but the policy never gets applied as I get an access is denied message.  I would like to set the system to go into standby mode.  In the event log I get the access is denied message.  I set the gpp as a computer policy and log in as the local admin.  Coincidentally the same error message appears when I try to install a shared printer through user GPP setting.  CSE is installed on both cases.

We have very simular results, it seems that some of the 2008 CSE's do no apply to computers, from power settings to registry "Tweaks"

I can confirm what Florian said: most customers still use Windows XP.
As up to Windows 2003 there was no integrated power settings management in GP,
most customers are glad to find the available options in GP Preferences.
The settings they use are often quite simple and I did have a situation where
the GP Prefs possibilities were not sufficient.
The common concerns tend to Windows XP support including GP Pres CSE which is no longer given
the way some customers would favor it.

But to make a small proposal for an improvement:
When playing around with the settings and having created a custom Power Scheme and later change
the same GPP setting to "Update" of one of the default power schemes, the earlier created custom scheme remains on the client.
So maybe add an enhancement to the editor which pops up a warning or something like this...

I use GP preferences to set the power scheme to "always on" and target it to a single workstation that needs to always be available for remote access. I have been very happy with this feature to date.
