2008 Server R2 SP1 hangs after adding Hyper-V as a role

Hi All,
I just purchased a HPdv6-6c16nr Laptop (i7-2670QM, has VT and DEP, 16gb RAM). I enabled VT in the BIOS, installed 2008 Server R2 SP1 64-Bit, installed some Win 7 64-Bit drivers for the network devices, rebooted a few times, and all was good. THEN, I added Hyper-V as a role, after it installed, I rebooted and it went as far as the mouse pointer on a black screen. I left it there for hours, never went any further. The only way I could get back into the software was to disable the VT in the BIOS. Need your help soon, because I'm getting ready to send this thing back! Thanks!

Hi,
Please try to upgrade BIOS to the latest version.
By the way, the following post discussed a similar issue, though it applies to Windows Server Beta “8”.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. I did check out that link and I have the most updated Insyde BIOS version (F.13). There's no USB3.0 settings in my BIOS, so I could not disable it, but I disabled all the software and drivers in Device Manager. Same result.

Hi,
I have seen some similar issues in this forum, some are different processor stepping issue. However, it seems that the laptop you used only has one processor.
Following post is a compatibility issue, it was resolved in Windows Server 2008 R2, you may try to contact HP to see whether they have any report about this issue.

Waht about DEP?.. Enabled?
You need to enable 2 things on your host:
Select No-Execute Memory Protection, select Enabled.
Select Intel(R) Virtualization Technology, select Enabled.

Have you already installed the video drivers?
I had this problem with 3rd party video drivers. I had to reinstall the OS, then the Hyper-V role and finally the 3rd party video drivers. Simply removing the video drivers, adding Hyper-V and reinstalling video drivers didn't work.
