Exchange 2010 Mailbox Restore

    Question

  • We need to restore a mailbox to recover a few sent items that are important, but the last time this mailbox was backed up we were using Exchange 2010, we have since completed a migration to Exchange 2013.

Looking here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876874(v=exchg.150).aspx specifically at the Recovery Database section it states I can't using a RDB on Exchange 2013 to restore a MDB from Exchange 2010.

Is my only option to build a Exchange 2010 server so that I have I way of restoring the db and subsequently the mailbox?  Or is there another way?

  • Hello,

If there is a pst file for the mailbox, you can recreate the mailbox on exchange 2013 and then import pst file.

If there is no a pst file, you may need to build a exchange 2010 server so that you can restore the db and mailbox.

  • Hi,

You cannot restore exchange 2010 backup to Exchange 2013 RDB. If you have another Exchange 2010 you can restore backup to it and then export data. If you can`t, consider using 3rd party tools to edb databases manipulation. I.e. digiscope should be able to recover data grom offline edb backup:http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp.

  • There are many third party Exchange database recovery applications available in the market which helps the users to repair and recover the damaged database quickly and in just few steps. These tools has been developed with easy to use GUI and do not require technical skills to operate. One such tool that worked in our case is here: www.edbtopst-converter.com/exchange-recovery.html

Hope this tool will also work who are unable to perform recovery with the help of above said steps by
