Delivery is delayed to these recipients or distribution lists

    Question

  • I have an SBS2008 server that get this message 'Delivery is delayed to these recipients or distribution lists' occasionally.

    Here is what I know:
Emails that get delayed are to external addresses
The sending domain is not blacklisted
The delayed messages get delivered - eventually
The vast majority of messages (99%) are delivered without delay
User can resend another email to delay address and it goes right away

     Any thoughts?  Thanks.

The answer can be found in your server's SMTP send protocol log. If,
for example, the receiving server uses graylisting it can cause delays
    in delivery.
