Outlook 2010/Error sharing Calendar: Error while preparing to send sharing message

    Question

  • Everyone that is connected to this exchange is receiving an error when they attempt to share a calendar in outlook 2010.  We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010.  The error reads:  Error while preparing to send sharing message.

Any ideas on a reason why this would be happening?

  • You set up any sharing Policies?

  • Yes it is set up and I have added the mailboxes to it.

  • I think it may  be caused by the following reasons.

    1. Auto Discover service or outlook 2010 issue

To verify it ,you could try  sharing calendar via  OWA?

For how to manage Auto discover Service

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/aa995956.aspx

    2.Mailbox corruption issue

    For how to repair database

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/0ef36823-261f-40eb-a2e7-6dd0398d8d10/

    3. Restrictive sharing permission assigned on the calendar.
Could you please verify if it is caused by your  sharing policies? If the User chooses to change the permission
to the following: "Anyone can view and  search for this Calendar on Office online.” You should be able to send
    them without issues.

  • The calendar sharing via owa works correctly.  The outlook calendar share is internal to the company. Would I still need to set up auto discover even though they are sharing calendars internally?

It can't be a mailbox corruption issue because everyone is experiencing it.

I checked their sharing permissions and these look good.

    Thanks,

    Derek

  • Yes, I think so.

I suggest you creating  an Autodiscover Virtual Directory.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/aa996418.aspx

At first ,you need to delete the old Autodiscover Virtual Directory.

  • I have deleted the autodiscover virtual directory and have re added it.  I still do not have the ability to share a calendar.  I must be missing something here.

I found that it is a problem with

        ID     : 1113

    Type       : Error

It sometimes tries .local and fails. It has success at mail.website.com.

  • The problem for me was being caused by a conflicting PST file.

We had an additional PST data file setup with the users Exchange mailbox.  When the calendar was being shared it was getting confused with sharing the Exchange calendar or the PST calendar.  I removed the PST Data File and it worked perfectly.

    This was on Outlook 2010.

  • I have seen this problem several times and the solution has always been to simply use the GAL rather than typing in the email address.  See http://www.urtech.ca/wp-admin/post.php?post=2913&action=edit&message=6

    I hope this helps.

  • Try This:

If u are using a proxy server then under avanced options just type in your exchange server name in the exceptions. Try sharing your calender now.

  • I had a similar issue with one known user that was unable to share her calendar. She would receive the following error when trying to share her calendar,

Error while preparing to send sharing message."

This was specific to her calendar. The error happened even while connected to OWA.  In working with MS, we made sure it wasn’t the Exchange DB, autodiscovery was working, outlook wasn’t in cache mode and moved her mailbox to another database on the same server.  Still the error persisted.

In working with MS, they have an internal KB article the states to check the users calendar permissions list and make sure there are no duplicate entries. (right click calendar > properties > Permissions) Sure enough, the user had 1 duplicate entry.  We removed the duplicate entry and it started to work.

I hope this is helpful.  I know it was helpful to me.

    We run Office 2010 sp1, and Exchange 2010 sp2 ru4.

  • Remove all dead/deleted users(AD,Mailbox) and Duplicate entries from "Permission" tab of Calendar of user who want to share his/her calendar and check.

  • We recently upgraded users from 2010 to 2013 Office and had the same error.  When the user tries to share a mailbox the share email never is sent and they get the error: Error while preparing to send sharing message."

The solution was to right click the calendar > properties > Permissions and add the users permissions there first.  Once the user is added with the permissions you want you can try sharing the calendar again.

    good luck

  • I have 2013 and it started happening to me.  What i had to do was give the permissions in the calendar 1st to whom i wanted to share the calendar with.  Then i was able to share the calendar.

  • you can copy the calendar to another folder. After that Uncheck Use Cached Exchange Mode. Move the calendar back under calendars. Done! At least that worked for me.

  • We faced this same problem just last week on Exchange 2010. For us we found out the Exchange 2010 migration had never been completed. So all the Address Lists and Global Address List had never been migrated to the 2010 version. A quick conversion to 2010 Address Lists, regenerating the OAB and forcing a full download of the Outlook Address Book and our problems went away.

These are the specific steps we took to remediate this.
