    Question

  • Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with few email addresses that seem to get bounced back to my mail box. Here is the message i get when i try to send or reply to the message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

          Subject:  flights to nc

          Sent:     6/16/2008 10:32 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

          btalyor@cpda.com on 6/16/2008 10:32 AM

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to.  Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

                <dmfdc1.DMF.COM #5.1.1 smtp;550 5.1.1 User unknown>

I am positively sure that i am using the correct email address, that is no typo....

    Can anyone help please???

    Thank you.

  • Hi Khalil,

    Test an email address here.

    http://www.hq42.net/net_tools/test_email_addr.php?mail_address=btalyor@cpda.com

It says that 550 5.1.1 User unknown and recipient needs to verify settings from their side, like it is set with not to accepts mail from internet etc..

  • For every NDR we have to look the name of generating server. If you are sending email internally then we can see our server name else we can see the authoritative server name. Authoritative is nothing but we set that the respective server can generate the NDR and send it to the sender.

    In the example

     abc@domain.com on 9/21/2011 4:50 PM

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to.  Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

                < abc.abc.xyz #5.1.1 smtp; 550 5.1.1 User unknown>

Recipient address is abc@domain.com and the generating server is abc.abc.xy

If you want to confirm the external domain's recipient address probably we can telnet to find it. To do that first go to mxtoolbox website and convert the domain name into ipaddress.

Please confirm the port 25 is opened or not. If it is opened then you can type the following command

    telnet ipaddress 25

    ehlo yourdomain.com

    mail from: alias@yourdomain.com

    rcpt to: recipient address

Then you will get reply with the recipient address. If the email address wrong then you get 550 series error message.

Backspace will not work in telnet please make sure that your are typing without any mistake.

  • I have the same problem!

Only 1 user is not able to send to the exchange server and gets this error... If she replies to a message that the recipient is sending it is working fine. If she types the adresse (and it is typed corrctly) it is not going.

I tried to create an alias with different name with same result!

    WIRED and i am lost!

  • Are you sure you have checked the email address carefully?  You have quoted 'btalyor' though I suspect it is more likely this is Mr TAYLOR and address should be 'btaylor'??
