How do I view shared calendars from My Calendars list on an iPad

    Question

  • I use an iPad and need to be able to view other peoples Exchange calendars. I know it can be done, because somehow I've managed to accidentally set it up for one of my colleagues.

On my iPad, I've ONLY setup my Exchange account, however under Calendars, I can see one of my Colleagues calendars. I've recently setup another iPad for myself and the same colleagues calendar has come up again.

All of my colleagues have shared their calendars out to me and given me full owners permissions, but I can't reproduce the same result.

I've tried adding myself in Exchange to another colleagues Full Access Permissions, with no success.

I have noticed that the one user whose calendar I can access was listed under "My Calendars" in Outlook 2010, but the others were listed under "Shared Calendars". It turned out that this doesn't matter as those entries can be dragged back and forth without effect.

I haven't added the successfully shared user to my additional mailboxes in Outlook. In fact, two other calendars added in that way don't show up on the iPad automatically.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi there,

I'd suggest you post this question to Apple support service since multiple shared calendars can be added in Microsoft products like Outlook. Ipad is provided by a third party provider which is independent of Microsoft, we have no sufficient information to know if it supports to load multiple calendars. Your understanding would be appreciated.

It would be better if you could share the screenshot for the existing "shared calendar" in Ipad. This would help my research. Thanks.

Just for you reference, I searched in Internet and fund that Google Sync might help to add multiple calendars to iPad. Hope it is helpful.

  • Hi,

I do not think you can see other's people shared calendars in you Ipad. You can see it in outlook because Outlook know how to access it. Also Outlook Web Access allows to view other's people calendar because it uses the Exchange Web Services in a such way. I do not think that Apple is so far they offer this feature, unless you develop your custom application which would be capable of doing so.

Do you also consider to write your own application for this?

  • Are you sure you didn't copy the folder to your mailbox? (That would put it in My Calendars by default.)

Any calendar in my mailbox will show up on my iPad under the Exchange account but the calendars linked to my mailbox as managed accounts don't, even though they show up automatically in Outlook 2010 (as Team Calendars).

As an FYI, if you can install addins, CodeTwo's folder sync will sync any calendar in your profile to a folder in your mailbox. https://www.codetwo.com/freeware/foldersync-addin/

  • Hi,

But the shared calendar is not your own folder. Therefore it will not be visible in your folder hierarchy in Microsoft Exchange.

You can see it in your Outlook when you connect to a shared calendar because Outlook nows how to handle share calendar a make a transparent folder item.

I sill cannot believe there is any tool which would allow you to see and access shared calendars. Apart you make it yourself. ;-)

  • I have a long list of sync utilities listed at syncing exchange that will sync shared or public folders to a mailbox but the bottom line is that you need to have the calendar in your own mailbox to sync it.

  • Is it still working for the colleague for whom you accidentally set it up?  If so, are you able to see what you did there?
