How do I create a query based distibution group in Exchange 2010?

    Question

  • Hi,

We have just moved onto exchange 2010 and I wanting to create query based distribution groups based on OU's. As there is now wizard within 2010 I am a little unsure as to how to go about this. I am led to believe I now need a scritp to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

You can do it from the console or the shell:

  • Hi,

What's the goal of the query?

You can use pipelining  to make the query simple and to reduce complexity. see this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998260.aspx

  • I didnt use a query I created a new dynamic distribution group, put it in the users ou and then under conditions set it for specific recipients in a state or province.

If you have a query that I could amend and use that would be great.

  • Ok, so you got the error when try to send email to the new dd group?

How long did you wait after you created the group?

  • Hi Smith,

So you have created the DDG successfully using the link provided by Leif?

    Create a Dynamic Distribution Group

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123722.aspx

But after finishing, you cannot send a mail to the new DDG, right?

Please send the mail using Outlook online mode or OWA to test. If you are running Outlook in cached mode, please check whether Outlook downloads the latest OAB.

  • Hi Smith,

Please run the cmdlet Get-DynamicDistributionGroup "DDG name" | fl and post the result here.

Please check whether the DDG is already existed in the GAL (Address Book).

If possible, please create another new DDG to test.

That link provides instructions for Exchange 2013. The OP was asking about Exchange 2010. That is also what I was searching for, and this forum thread was near the top of my search results. Mismatched answers like this make searching these forums very frustrating.
